As the title says....

We've come to the conclusion from my other thread that the 1st Generation A-Class is the worst car that Mercedes has ever made. Shame really, because I was actually thinking of buying one for my Mum. I don't really know much about them to be honest.

Anyway, back to the title!

In my opinion it would have to be the CL55 AMG, Power, Comfort, Performance, Styling, and it can seat four. I'd love to have one!

HI

I always loved the SEC 126 - maybe because it was my first car!! lol

Acid

My vote is for the CLK 430 Cab - understated presence compared to the 55AMG, but with all the qualities described above; power, comfort, performance and styling...but with the addition of a removable roof.

Nothing quite like listening to that V8 with the roof down!!

Mr Aviator... NE Hants - same here.

Rather than just vote for my car, the first one that pops into my head is the square shape SL from the 90s. Can't remember the code :o for it. Seem to have a good reputation for bulid quality (though I'll caveat that and say that opinion was formed before I joined here so who knows what real experience has to say about that particular model).

W201 or W124 series --- basically the same chassis design. They had learned about rust protection by that time, had a good rear suspension, and hadn't got too complicated electronically. A car produced with engineering excellence in mind. The SL [ R129 ]that JonMad speaks of is based on a modified W124 floorplan design also.

The W201 034 2.3-16.

The very underrated first compact performance car from Mercedes Benz.

Cosworth designed MB a 16v head that turned the original 2.3 8v four pot lump into a 320BHP screamer!!!

Sadly they were detuned for the road going versions by giving them less aggressive cams and replacing the kugelfischer fuel system with the horrible Bosch KE Jet fuel injection system.

But it's not just Cosworth that pulled the boat out with these cars, oh no.

Mercedes also went to town on the chassis. The quicker steering box, stiffened anti roll bars and bushes etc, sports suspension which included SLS at the rear realy makes the car handle amazingly well, even more so than the standard W201.

Even though they only have 188bhp they are a total hoot to drive:D

The W201 034 2.3-16 deserves it's place in the 'Best Cars Mercedes Ever Built' because of it's utter madness. A true screamer 16 valve performance car that laid the egg for the later AMG C class cars.

The Mercedes 190 2.3-16 is a true icon in my personal opinion:rock:

W123 Estate

I waited a year to buy my W123 300TD Auto Estate, I believe the last car designed by the engineers and not by accountants, all the extras, and it was brilliant to drive, comfortable, reliable and no stress after 100's miles on a journey. Had an amazing (for the time) Blaupunkt Bremen radio fitted, missed it a lot when I let it go after 6 years.

Current '54 plate C270 Avantgarde sport Auto, wish I had bought the estate version, boot aperture too small

This is the easiest question ever.....

The first one!

Why?

Because that is where it all started, and they have all followed on ever since.

Imagine this question if MB have never made that very first car they ever made?

Now that is a real enthusiasts answer!;)

All of them, that's why we're here!

That big Pullman thing with the hydraulic everything and a 6.9 engine - the one that Clarkson and various ageing rockstars have.

Followed closely by the C63, which is just mental:bannana:

300SEL 6.3. I like the oldies.....

The first "Q" car?

My first thought was the pullman or "Big" (Grosser).

But I think the answer is the W124 500e. It's just such a shame this masterpiece was never made in RHD.

This is of course excluding anything AMG before the mercedes takeover.

600 SWB + 300SEL 6.3 + Gullwing + 560SEC + W202 4.3 AMG.

W196, O/K not a road car, but in the hands of the 'maestro' all but unbeatable.

CL55K IMHO have one and love it !
