What's the coffee cup in my dash display for?

Ok, so I know this is probably a silly question and I did do a quick search before posting, but what's the little coffee cup icon for in my dash display, next to my gear selection?

To tell you to take a break. Have you got attention assist?

Attention assist is in my menu when I scroll through the options, so yes I assume I have it. I've never seen it do anything though, it just sits there, from starting the car early morning to getting back home/to my hotel at night, short and long journeys (Longest so far being yesterday morning at 2.5 hours) it's always there.....

Seriously i have it and it has never gone off, but in theory if you start to nod off at the wheel it will wake you up.

Only seen mine once and it was a quiet morning going down the motorway. I pulled out from L1 to L2 to pass a couple of wagons and there was a brick/block or something in the road which caused me to swerve to avoid it. Car must have thought my driving sloppy as the cup came on.

I stopped at one of the emergency telephones to alert the powers that be about the obstacle and it was off when I got back in the car, so it must have thought I'd had my break. :)

Interesting, I wonder if that's the beep I heard, but couldn't attribute to anything the other day when I was driving at night and was actually quite tired. Should the coffee cup change colour or something? Or is it the fact that the cup appears at all, is suggesting I need a break? If so, it's either broken, or it really doesn't like my driving style, lol.

Thanks for that, very useful to know. I assume this probably was the beep I heard the other day in this case, nice to know it's there. Thanks folks.

You don't need it if you have a nagging Mrs harping on for hours on end!!

LOL mine doesn't nag when in the car, especially on long journeys, she tends to go to sleep, which is a bugger, because normally we only travel together if attending a car show, which means early morning and late night driving, usually when already knackered hehe.

The Merc is my daily, so I tend to be alone in there most of the time, either on my way to or from the town I work in, or back and forth to and from the hotel

Indeed, the coffee cup symbol is on all the time, unless you actually disable Attention Assist in the menu for whatever reason.

You'll get a loud beep when it thinks you should take a break and a message like this...
