Whats your strategy for year 2030 / ban of ICE vehicles?

Let’s see. I hope he’ll take a proper look at it.

I’ve never been a fan of knee jerk policies.
To be honest I’ve always thought the 2030 target would be pushed. It wouldn’t surprise me if it gets pushed again as we near 2035. By then CCUS should be having an impact which would give the Govt some wriggle room on environmental targets.

Sorry to bring it up but when did your BIL pass away?

Reason I’m asking is because my old business partners dad was diagnosed with asbestosis in the mid 80’s and died in 87.

We were given talks on Prostate Cancer in 2007.
Diagnosed in 2007. Died within 18 months.
They’d all known the dangers for a few decades.

Yet 15 years on, there’s massive misunderstanding about the accuracy and relevance of tests, and the dubious need for surgical action in all cases.

I refer you to my earlier post. Spend a few grand on tests and they'll find something that could be addressed.

That you haven't diagnosed yourself as having an issue wasn't my point.

As healthcare gets more sophisticated, it identifies more potential problems. Whether they are lifeshortening is another issue. My B-I-L got to 70 before the quacks identified the asbestosis he'd inhaled while running the wood "shop" repairing and rebuilding carriages for British Rail. Before that he'd led a healthy active life, playing football into middle age and doing lots of weekend DIY and gardening
I saw a poster yesterday (advertising a dental surgery of course) which said there has been an increase of 93% in oral cancer! Scare tactics of the worst kind - if it had rarely been investigated, then it would only take a couple of people to get to that % figure!

That’s exactly what it looks like.
Car manufacturers won’t be happy.
Nor the Chinese onslaught on the BEV market.

Not sure how big/important is the UK market for China, but certainly if the EU delays as well, then this may become an issue for the Chines EV manufacturers.

Looks like the ban may not come in by 2030. Possibly delayed until 2035.

Rishi Sunak considers weakening key green policies Rishi Sunak considers weakening key green policies

Thankfully Rishi has more common sense than Theresa May or Boris Johnson. It's been obvious for a while that something had to give. The gas boiler ban in particular was formed in cloud cuckoo land.

The car manufacturers will indeed not be happy but most of them have been tripping over themselves to announce the end of IC production well before the deadlines so they are partially to blame if this catches them out. Japanese manufactures such as Toyota have been far more sensible about rushing in to EV's and will be better placed. There will be more focus now on Hybrid or EV's with range extenders as the main family car and smaller cheaper EV's as 2nd cars.

What Rishi has to do now is a get a grip of energy prices. If net zero targets drive energy prices higher it will drive manufactures to other countries where prices are lower which will do nothing at all towards net zero. The green levies should be scrapped.

Another lockdown gift.

A two year holiday for dentists and hygienists meant that cases weren’t identified as promptly as usual, as you rightly point out.

Add on top increased alcohol consumption during those years and we’re off to the races.

A shame that the Covid response review is being used as a political football.

The PM is scheduled to make an announcement at 4:30pm today ... rumoured that this will include pushing the ICE sales ban back from 2030 to 2035.

Which is what it was to start with.....not much of an improvement......how about somewhere in 2350.....?

Hi , well as a model citizen when Gordon Brown instructed the population to purchase diesel engine cars I did , so boys we got it wrong so we would like you to purchase petrol vehicles, i did , we got it wrong again but this time we would like you to buy battery cars : no f**k**g way , 2 out of 3 is terrible .
I believe in time we will as a nation will discover that battery cars are not the ideal transport mode.

Considerably heavier than an equivalent ICE car , weight does not decrease with miles driven as an ICE car. Roads and bridges will fail !

Power shortages and remember any car that is being charged can have the battery charge removed from the car and used to support the national grid.

I am a great believer in alternative power but the electric public infrastructure is , unreliable , expensive , lacking in capacity. How much time is lost waiting to charge a car.( time and the hourly rate of the driver ) that in turn is inflationary to the UK economy.

Found my strategy. OK, only a 30 mile range when on electric. but the looks (and up to 300mpg!)...... 😍

Hi , Rumbling in Worcester re EV cars should only be allowed parked on the ground floor due to weight issues.

That's odd.

Vans, Rangies, double-cab pickups, limos, etc, all weight more than an a typical EV.

My Vauxhall Omega was 1,700kg, my W204 was 1,400kg, my IONIQ 5 (with the long range battery) is 1,900Kg. I can't imagine an S-Class or a G-Wagon weighing significantly less?

What are multi story car parks in Worcester made of... aerated concrete?

Vans and double cab pick ups? They’re all air aren’t they?

There has been some recent progress with diagnosis.

Hi , In Worcester the main structural beams are deflecting are the car parks.

The standard S-Class weighs more than my EV...

It seems to me that the 'weight' issue is yet more EV- bashing.

No one seemed to think that weight was an issue before.... have you ever heard anyone say that you shouldn't buy an S-Class because of the increased tyre wear.... or that S-Class owners should pay higher VED due to the damage that heavy cars cause to the roads... or that S-Class cars are more polluting because of tyre dust....

And yet when comes to EVs, everyone has an opinion about the weight. Nice.
