Wheel refurb (E63 10 spokes)

Hi all, in a similar position, my E63 has the 10 spokes but all in saying grey, originally I believe they were black with the polished rim, I would like to return them back to this but is it possible if the outer lip has been cut to be level with the spokes? Ie they have been refurbished before and now no longer have the slightly protruding lip, if that makes any sense?
What are your opinions? Cheers!

Probably not hence why they are now fully grey

I believe the outer silver lip is diamond cut with the spokes raised slightly above the lip. Sounds like your wheels have been re cut along with the spokes to the same level as the lip. You might just have enough meat to do one more round of cut to the lip. After that if you did scuff the repairer will probably tig weld material to the damaged area and could offer polished lips instead of diamond cut. That's probably why there are cars which have been powered coated entirely. Worth getting advice though from a wheel refurbishment place of your choice. 👍

It depends which 10 spokes they are as I believe there were two types and slightly different. One type had full spokes and outer lip in diamond cut, the other type was either Matt Black or Matt Titanium Grey coloured spokes, with a diamond cut out lip.

The latter type is what I have and I have just had them refurbished with a diamond cut lip/rim. Prior to that they had been refurbished in Matt grey paint for the spokes and a silver paint finish to replicate the previous diamond cut section. As others have said it will depend on how many times they been refurbished in the past and whether the outer rim has any filler that would need grinding out if you wanted it diamond cut again.

Thanks a lot for the replies, there is no discernible lip, flush with the spokes so I wonder if it was originally the full diamond cut face OR has it been refurbished a few times so they are now flush.
In which case has anyone successfully had them painted black with a silver paint finish instead of diamond cut for the outer lip? Hmmm..

My oem wheels have full diamond lips and spokes and they appear level. The spokes are higher though on satin black colour wheels with diamond lips. Just looking at the photos 😀20221017_143347.jpg

Yes this can be done. I had a previous set of Merc diamond cut alloys painted two colours to replicate the diamond cut finish (but without diamond cutting). See below:

Thanks for this, I’m starting to think mine were these ones, I need to get hold of the order sheet really, do you know what the option code was for these by any chance?

No idea on that buddy but found this link displays some oem amg alloys. 👍

Cool that’s good to know, I wonder how hard it would be to replicate the silver lip just with painting them..
Just ask a couple of local but well wheel refurb companies and I’m sure they’ll guide you as too what can and can’t be done.

There are three versions of this wheel.
The ones badgx has are these

The ones I had are in Post#8 and are matt black with a silver lip.

Finally in Matt Himalaya/ Titanium grey with silver lip.

Thanks for that, I think they must be the silver faced ones, I’ve got option code 797 on vin checker which I think lines up with them being them, and I have silver centre caps.
I asked a wheel refurb place about doing them black with the polished rim and he said it would look funny as there isn’t an actual raised lip on mine, so would look strange where the spokes meet the rim.
Anyway sorry to derail the thread, thanks for the help.
