Wheel refurb (E63 10 spokes)

Thanks everyone! I knew it would split opinion :) But given me some good food for thought....although to be honest I still can't decide! I do like the OEM wheels I have, but have had bad experiences with diamond cut on a couple of cars now. I'll have a think over the next few weeks - just a shame the corrosion has got bad enough to annoy me now!
One thing I wasn't really aware of was the "brown-look" wheels!

This is one the most subjective topics so you will get almost as many suggestions as there are colours and combinations.

Personally I like silver wheels, especially on black cars. I also like diamond cut wheels so I would refurb back to factory standard.

At some point though, there won’t be enough material to cut, at which point I would reluctantly switch to a non-cut finish.

If you do decide to go for black wheels then I would cut the lip to define the boundary between the whee and tyre.

The lip reduces the effect of the tyres looking brown and the wheels looking dirty very soon after cleaning.

Also without the lip; the chrome trim will look top-heavy,,with definition of shape on the top and not on the bottom of the car.

Last but not least diamond cut or silver wheels look cleaner for longer, which can fool the eye into thinking the car is cleaner.

Don’t expect black wheels to need refurbing less often. Kerb marks and chips really stand out, so expect to refurb often!

Go for what you like best even if it means it costs a little more over time. You have a special car so don't compromise.

Finally, many people who don’t re-cut because they think it doesn’t last sell the car before it becomes an issue any way!

Good luck with your decision!
Thanks - some really good points here, as ever!

I guess I could go diamond cut and only powder coat next time they need a refurb and cutting can't be done again. But I'd have to find someone else, as the guy I use refuses to do it any longer, as he's fed up of people coming back to him after a year complaining.

Yeah the cut lip as on the OEM wheels does look good.

The other consideration is if I black out the chrome trim, will diamond cut wheels then look odd. I'm terrible at deciding these things 😂

Reminds me of the colour of the wheels on my old M3, LOVE that shade.
Ironically I got black on my E92 M3 - but I think it looks good against the Interlagos Blue.

I had the matt black 10 spoke alloys on my Obsidian black E63 and loved them. The silver lip makes the look. Take that away and I really dislike them.View attachment 136004
Even if they were painted completely black they would look like those ones after my wife had parked it by a kerb a few times!!

Oh yes, forget to mention, change the centre emblem to black mercedes wreath 👌

Matt black with silver lips, retains the classy looks but still with a bit of sinister look to it 👌
Have to admit, although I don't like Black wheels, if I had to have them, they would definitely have the Silver lip, breaks them up a bit. 🙂👍

Black SL and I had my wheels refurbed dark gunmetal as I didn't like the black on black look.
Have to agree. BoB looks boyracer.
