Hi all, i fixed mthe biggest problem yet with the faulty gearbox by changing the car battery, i have a code error for a faulty wheel speed sensor (friend scanned it but it didnt say which one) so without paying a fortune on the STAR is there a way of finding out which one it is, other than using a scanner at all.

thanks all

ALSO...anyone know of any 'cheapish' scanners, used to be able to get the ones on ebay for the old BMW e46 is there any for the mercies...

cheers

On my W124 you can test the ABS sensors with a multimeter for a/c Voltage or resistance.
Are yours 'handed'? could just buy one and swap it till it's in the right position...:D

Hi balge...firstly cheers for the response however I have no idea what you mean by 'handed'..I've seen them selling on eBay and they list position eg: front left or rear left...so I'm guessing I'll need to know before I buy..??

Hi,
Not sure what they should read but if I was in your position I would disconnect each one in turn measure the resistance across each wheel sensor in turn, then I would hope it would be obvious which one had gone by the reading I got. It may also pay you to look at the reluctor rings on each wheel, to ensure they are still ok not corroded away, split. fallen off etc. paying special attention to the rear ones on the drive shaft, one of these being faulty will give a code reader a symptom's of a speed sensor being U/S.
If it has been plugged in and told you a sensor was shot it should of given a code in the form of a number, what was the number as this should tell you what sensor is at fault.
