When a fix becomes a mod (Guess the mod)

Is there a clue in the name - 'When a fix becomes a mod' - suggesting that something broken was replaced with something better? As opposed to simply upgrading existing (working) bits?

He got a DVD player and put back the old Merc CD player, now he wants to remove the screen switch will leave a hole. The clue is how did he take out the screen switch without leaving a hole in the veneer?

The Winner is Jazz!

The giveaway is the rest function with on a prefacelift (older sport trim)
The interior heating/cooling fan only blew at one speed and sometimes never at all...

A quick read and I found this thread: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/interior/4695-grrr-interior-heater-blower-intermittent.html

I ordered new bushes and promptly decided to replace, the old bushes although worn didn't seem to be the culprits.....

So blame immediately went to the Final Stage Resistor, located on the fan unit - swapped this out and no joy

It turned out to be the heater control unit....

We (Gurpz and I) sourced another unit from a pre-facelift (210 part number made by Bosch in France) but it had the same problems (along with a blown bulb)

We then sourced another unit from a facelift and as you know the facelifts CANBUS had the rest option.

The facelift (again a 210 part number again Bosch and made in France) from a late W reg tiptronic Elegance this was better but not 100% as in it allowed me to regain the option of controlling blower speed. To our suprise the rest function worked 100%

fitetd and working! OEM facelift sport heating control unit (with rest) in a pre-facelift 202 Sport. The revised unit is so much better in terms of ease of fitting and I am confident it will not fail like the 210 part numbered units.

Gupz thanks for your time and help with this mod - Gurpz is reviving my 202. Thanks to Shude for his unit - his car lives on in mine :)

Watch those eBay sport units fly out the door on eBay!

Now to replace the bulbs on Shudes unit.

NICE WORK!

My facelift 208 has the REST feature and it's really useful.
