Cheapest Place to Buy shocks?

I am thinking of changing the shocks on my W202 C240; it's a thing i always do if i buy a used car. They look a bit rusty and original and there is no evidence of them having been changed. WHere would be the best/cheapest place to get some?

I don't want to lower the car or make the ride any stiffer really, but it doesn't quite have the "magic carpet" ride one usually gets in a Merc. A decent set of Gas ones would be nice, maybe Boge or Bilstein. What do you all think?

oh yeah, guess that's not clear! :p

i meant where's the cheapest place to get some!! (shocks! fnar fnar!)

Not knowing how much the stealership charges for shocks, perhaps he means 'cheap' as in 'cheaper' when compared to the dealership?

I am sure somebody here changed there shocks on a W202 recently, try a search. :)

I have previously used Boge shock absorbers on a W201 190E and they were fine.

Try Euro Car Parts or GSF?

HTH,

Will

probably abroad somewhere? somebody bought some Mobil 1 oil in France I think and saved a packet.

Ok it's just getting flippant now, i'll find some myself!

Just wondered if anyone had had a good deal recently that was all. I went to German and Swedish for Polo's shocks last time, and they were indeed very good and cheap. Will call them tomorrow. I thought that maybe there was some company that specialized in just Mercedes parts that may do a good deal that someone here knew of.

Changing brands does involve a learning curve to get the best maintenance deals i am sure, but was only hoping that with all the combined knowledge on here this curve could be shortened somewhat.

Hopefully when i have had the car a little longer (only got it Friday) I will be able to contribute as much as others on the forum. To be quite honest, i feel embarrassed to ask too many questions as i feel i am taking more than i put in, however, i do like to help if i know the answer to something, and this is only a matter of a liitle bit of time concerning the new car.

Rant over.

Sorry. If anyone has any questions about Common Rail diesel fuel injection, VW's, Mechanical Engineering or computers, please feel free to ask without being laughed at. :)

dont mind me ,... I 've just got in after a beer or two.

dont worry either about taking out more than you put in .. I reckon most of us started out that way on here. If anyone can help, they will - it may take a day or so sometimes.

Ok joking aside now,Have you tried anyone like mercman in the classifieds I know he can get quite a few parts sorted as I have purchased from him a few times now,If he cant help then there is a name that springs to mind Stuart at "bluestar" if you can give him the details or part numbers he can usually get them a lot cheaper than a dealer can phone no is 0161 355 1476

brilliant, thanks. will try them both tomorrow, thanks. :)

Dont feel embarrased mate, we all have to start somewhere. If you dont ask you dont find out. Humour comes in many guises and in this media it can sometimes be difficult to determine what is humour and what isnt. I can personally vouch for members in this thread, they mean no insult, just a way of having some fun. Throw it back at them
:D

Heh, just don't let any members let their dog pee on your feet ;) I'd draw the line at that kind of behaviour :p

How does £47 each sound? Same price for front and rears, slight difference on sport or elegance setup. These are a brand called Gabriel, manufactured by Arvin Meritor, very highly regarded in the trade.

If I remember correctly, MB were around £80 per shock.

I put a full set on my 190E for about 170 quid, they were OE bilstein shocks from euro car parts.
They have a website - www.eurocarparts.co.uk
Its good.
