Where to buy a loom?

Hi, I have read on these forums about people buying engine looms for £4-500. Could somebody tell me where!
Main stealer wants £540 + vat and even the online MB parts link (Inchcape I believe) is £480+vat, which is £570 by the time Gordon and Parcelforce have had their take.

I love my E320 estate and have had it for 5 years. Spent a fortune keeping it on song, but this is making me think. It hasn't gone yet, but has been patched and partially replaced, so thought a good idea to bite the bullet for worry free motoring - but would like to to try and get the cost down a bit.

Any pointers gratefully received.

How old is it? If not much older than 5 years and has MBSH I reckon it would be worth a polite letter to MB Customer Services pointing out that something as key to the car as a loom should be expected to last longer than 5 years or so. Maybe not get you the full value but possibly a contribution? Whatever, it is worth a stamp! Just remember that those people can get some serious abuse on occasion so a polite letter may just swing it.

Just a thought

If it's an E320 estate with loom problems then we're talking about W124, so at least 10 years old.

My advice is to plead poverty at the stealership, depending on the cost price of the loom they might be able to knock off as much as 30%. An alternative is to approach them as a business (Coastcard Motors Ltd or something) and ask for trade discount ;)

you could try a rebuild but a lot of labour involved. http://v12uberalles.com/AMM_rewire.htm
so looks as if you will have to buy a made up one sorry to say. As SHUDE says negotiating a discount on the standard item seems the only option.
You can save money by doing the replacement yourself which appears relatively simple if you take it slow and label everything etc. see http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/M104WireHarness

Ask a European dealer for the price - try Mercedes Benz of Leipzig - they let you pay by paypal (as you find them on ebay alot). Its actually owned by MB

Theres a bit of Euros = Pounds going on as far as I can see with the non-service-part items ...

Cheers
Richard

Thanks guys, yes Shude, you are correct, it is the 'W124 issue'. Have tried persuading main stealer, but not interested in doing a deal.

I am surprised that some enterprising outfit like autosparks have not cottoned on to this market. Has anyone thought of a group buy on these items with a reputable manufacturer? Are there loads of different ones?
