Where's the IR lead?

My W215 has TV installed. In the instructions for fitting digital TV there is a harness that piggy back the digital TV on the analog unit.

Somewhere in all of this must be a lead for the IR as the digital TV is controlled via remote. I know the receiving unit is integrated in COMAND as I can see it.

Could this remote lead be connected to other devices, like the DVD/MP3 player I have in the boot, thus achieving a more integrated fit? If so, where is the lead for this? It must be in the boot somewhere close to the existing TV.

I've searched I can't find a wiring diagram or worksheet that shows this internal IR at all, yet I know it's there, I can see two IR receivers in the COMAND unit. Any ideas anyone?

I'm not sure which lead do you actually mean (and I did not look at the wiring diagrams). But isn't the IR remote communicating via the IR receiver at the Comand display and then the remote control messages must be delivered via CAN-bus messages and/or the fibre ring. Since the digi-receiver must be connected to both, it would not need a separate "remote control wire". This again makes it pretty impossible to use this for other, after market devices.

Thanks and that makes sense that IR messages would be relayed on the CAN bus or fibre optic ring. I suspected as much. Back to the installation procedure as the wiring for the remote that is installed must be pinched somewhere as plugging the remote in freezes the unit.

Those two receivers are there to be used with the COMAND remote control (an option). If you have COMAND, you'll have the receivers.

I suspect Diesel Benz is right and that IR data is just passed on between the modules.

Yes, I keep meaning to buy one of those remotes. And, when I source a MB digital TV the remote from that will work through it too. Then I'll have three remotes in the car! Worse than my living room. Hmm, I can get software for my Nokia N73 that uses the IR to make the phone into a super duper remote control, I wonder if I can program it to control COMAND?
