Which C class C220 CDI C230 C280

I understood the C230 to be a 2500cc engine and C280 a 3000cc engine and a C320 is a 3500cc engine.

I spotted the same page on the MB site. I've noted on my co car online configurator its a 7 speed only as they have listed the auto as a separate car. The prices of both cars are the same.

I will read through the electronics bit of the forum and work out if I get it done on delivery or not. I'd like to keep it out of the monthly budget and take it as a hit.

I've struggled to see C280 and C230, one dealer told me he'd never seen on at all. He suggested like everyone on here that the C220 is one to go for. But he did tell me about the C250 due sometime this year.

Only prob I have is whether i should wait to see if my new scheme will let me have that or not as its sounds really good. But sods law will be that I will be forced to drive an Vx Insignia:crazy:

A bit late and memory is not what it was.
So yes you are correct the C230 is a 2500cc the C280 is 3000cc as is the C320 the only 3500cc is the C350 petrol.

I'm not suprised that the dealer has not seen many C280's or C230 cant say I have seen the later at all and I could only find a C280 in elegance trim to test drive from MB themselves. Mainly I think people go for one of the diesel models in the uk.
The C250 on paper looks like it will be a peach of an engine, in fact it may well kill off the C320 if its refined enough unless they unleash more the the bigger unnits powe potential, not certain when its due to appear in the uk exatly its sometime in the summer, there are some test drive reviews of the european variants on the web if you do a search for C250 cdi.

I do agree, but I suspect the engine is not quite as refined as we would like. Some reviews of the new E Class choose the 220 over the 250 because of the better refinement.
There is no way that a 4 will be as refined as a 6 but then you have to pay for the extra fuel and the weight....:(

Went to the local stealer today to find out availability of the cars i'm interested in.
C220 CDi Sport Auto ~4 weeks
C230 Sport Auto - Special built to order only, no stock is kept at all.
C280 SE ~ 4-8 weeks

They estimated a C230 would take 6mths. But I will know for sure tomorrow. Whilst I was there I am still unsure if I want the SE or Sport.
Sport seats seemed quite good and supportive. The SE seats weren't that bad - I was expecting the sort of seat the E90 SE has.

I have one of the last W203's in C230 format with the new M272 V6 2.5L 24 valve engine. It's a fantastic motor and delivers 34-35mpg on a run. It was only available as a manual or with the 7G auto gearbox. The M272 engine has single spark plugs which are much cheaper and easier to change.

I've just found on our company scheme what I think is a good deal

New E Class W212
E250 CDI Avantgarde Man Saloon
£288

I am now really tempted to go for one of these.

The engine just begs you rev and rev to the redline. I've taken the car onto the German Autobahn and it really comes to life above 100mph.

It has suffered a lot of abuse in my hands.

I have had a couple of near misses at night.

After all knocks and scrapes will be paid for by someone else.

Hmmmmm. You sound far more like a BMW driver than a MB driver...... :bannana:

I'm used to having a very high redline (BMW starts at 7.5/8k) and a manual. Like foot to the floor.

been in the garage lots - new engine for one.

Anybody see a connection between the above posts?

Ah well.... different strokes.... welcome to the forum!

It was my 1st BMW and probably my last.

My previous cars have been Peugeot, Rover, Fiat prior to the BMW.

The BMW engine fault has appeared on other cars of this type. The 320si was built specifically to qualify for WTCC racing. Hence why you have to rev it like mad to do anything.

BMW built a special run of 5000 (500 in uk) of these cars between Apr 06 and Sept 06. I've been contacted by quite a few other people on the BMW forum who are now suffering the fault I had a few years ago. They have just reached the mileage I had when the problem manifested. Mine's at 66k miles. I don't know of any other 320si with such a high mileage.

The lease company are probably wishing I hand the car back as every 2nd oil service I need the valves adjusted. No other BMW group car has this engine. The cost of this service is £150 for oil and £500 for the valve service! As I don't pay I just chuckle that someone has probably miscalculated the lifetime cost of the car in the lease.

That's a very different kettle of fish. Much more of a refined comfortable cruiser (by all accounts), but then maybe that will suit your high mileage more?

I know its very different. I'm not expecting E90 style handling on a W212.
But I do like the look of the W212 Avantgarde. It gives off a bolder statement than my E90.

To me its a huge step up from what I have driven in the past.
Most of my "colleagues" who have this car (or Jag/E60) are "A line" management. So if I can get one before anyone notices :D

The only drawback is that I can't add any options, at least it comes with xenon's and leather.

Does anyone know what Chesnut colour leather looks like? I've been trying to find a picture of it. I've been in touch with supplying stealer, he's told me to wait for a week before I'll get any further info on availability.
