Ok thank you! What I am looking for now is a used genuine C5, or at least one on eBay that works as a C5. Anyone able to point me toward one

Be careful buying a C5 - no obvious advantage over a recent C4 other than aesthetics but more expensive. If you want to get a feel for Xentry diagnostics you can buy an Openport 2.0 clone - they are cheap as chips (mine was £15) and will work with Xentry Passthru although maybe not all modules with all models. On my W211 I can't tell the difference between the C4 using Xentry XDOS and the passthru device using Xentry Passthru. My C4 now sits in it's box gathering dust....
