Hello, so i am preparing to switch the NTG1 Comand Nav stereo in my W211 (2007) E63 with an aftermarket head unit. I have been told that i need to put a MOST Fibre to RCA interface in to allow the head to connect to the speakers via the boot AMP.

I have been recommended a unit from IncarTech - https://incartec.co.uk/Pages/Product.aspx?P=4913

This is £280.

I have found a cheaper unit that seems to do exactly the same job - from Audio Tech Direct - https://audiotechdirect.com/ug-electronics-fob01-mercedes-fibre-optic-amp-decoder-rca-adaptor/

This is £114.

So any experience out there with the cheaper product?

Thanks
Damian

Do you have 7.1 system ( I guess you do ? )

Do you want to keep the amp or would you be happy with the output from head unit or maybe go with an aftermarket but keep factory speakers?

Those boxes only output to all speakers and once as they are only a single input. You'll only get left and right adjustments.

If you want to have left+right+front+back+sub you can run a harness from head unit to speaker pugs at the amp but that will only be 5.1, I'm sure with a bit of work you can wire in the other 2 boot speakers to get 7.1 again but it will only work sound wise as 5.1 but with a duplication of speakers on 1 line of the 5.1.

The cable to do direct to speakers about £35 off fleebay. see at bottom of this listing, you may need to customize wiring to work with your chosen head unit

Hi.
I'm looking to leave the original connectivity in place so it is easy to roll back and re-install the NTG1 OEM unit if i decide to sell the car.

Happy with left/right only. will accept that to avoid recabling.

So if its going to be one of the two Fibre RCA adapters is the cheaper going to be less reliable or of a lesser quality?

I think you'll be disappointed vs the quality you have now. If you have aux in maybe get a Bluetooth 3.5mm receive and run phone on aux input. You can get some with handsfree built in also. Then you get the best of both for under £40 as your phone will always be vastly better than any headunit in terms of apps and customization and most likely also sound quality. admittedly its not as nice as a head unit to set up.

Something like this with a little bit of wiring into back of cig lither and feeding cables from back of glove box ( for aux in connection splice ) up to where factory mic is - to put the round controller - wouldn't be a bad install and super cheap.

also, no idea on quality. never used them as I wouldn't be happy with just L+R but thats just my personal preference.

I use mine that way but wit ha simple usb charged tiny 3.5mm jack BT receiver. you want to get one with a recent BT version then sound is very good.

I have factory phone with Vesio so it still takes over from aux on command. If you have factory phone is easy but as I say I just charge my receiver from time to time when driving. As long as I turn it off when I get out the car I probably get a good 20hr out of each charge and its a few years old now.

Mine is a very old version of this. Can keep it plugged in with out need to have glove box open.

Ordered a Pioneer CarPlay unit and the cheaper of the two most to rca adapters. Install on the 24th . Will report back if it works as expected.

Hey Damian, I am considering fitting the same decoder. Did you ever get it fitted in the end ?

Cheers
