Which netbook?

Why not check Dixons taxfree. Save the VAT. You can pre order it and pick it up at the airport before you leave. Save lots.

Be very very careful with Dixons Taxfree.

Last time I walked through the netbooks were not great value compared with buying on the net.

If you plan ahead then you may find a deal but most of the savings I've seen have been on Macs and Sony kit - and again you have to be careful with these too. Macbook models change regularly and it may be the older stock that's actually being offered. They have a website and you can phone to check stock.

And then there's the issue of hauling it out and back - getting it on the plane on the way out isn't an issue with most airlines as they allow airport shopping as an addition to your cabin baggage allowance. Ryanair is one that very strictly does not allow you airport shopping as an extra - it has to fit in your handbaggage.

Getting it back and it's usually not an addition to your allowance so you may have to pay to check something in.

If all you want is a product to access email via wifi. Why not look at iPod touch. Music too and fits in your pocket.

I need a proper keyboard, plus the ability to open excel and PDFs and view them at a reasonable size.

I just don't get on with the small stuff, 10.1" seems the ideal compromise.

Dixons Tax free excellent idea, I'll be int he airport next Friday looking to kill time.

Recommend strongly you check what they carry and order it before arriving at airport. Be a pity if they've sold out of the one you want. I believe there's a website. Google dixons tax free.

My asus has been around the houses , 2 years old.. travelled more miles than id care to think of and still look new even tho its used all the time and its.... pearl white :)

Its the 10" model which makes the keyboard bigger and it runs windows xp and office 2007 fine. Battery life is around 5 -6 hours and ive got no complaints.

My money would be on a wee asus model :) or the lenovo X10 i think its called..

I went to PC world and bought an ASUS, it does exactly what I need it to do. (typing on it now actually).

£199.00 - perfect.

I would have bought a Samsung if they'd have had any in stock but they didn't, so I took whatever they had that was cheap and ran Win XP.

^ great news....

See I was right :) £199 does everything you need :)

So far so good, it does everything required and so far I can't see the benefit of super processors in something this tiny.

That's what I've got a Studio 17 for...decent laptop desktop replacement.

Play games. Are you missing something with Alienware Area51?:thumb:

Ahh, see I don't play games so most of this huge processing power is never required.

Boring I know, but it's just a bit of communication equipment for me.
