Hi there, now that I am using my recently purchased '97 C180 auto every day I want to change the engine oil and filter and if required top up the automatic gearbox and power steering pump. The car has 86,000 miles on it. Can any one tell me the correct grade of oil and fluids it is best to use ?

10w40 for engine oil.
Dextron II for ATF
and probably the same Dextron II for the power steering....
if the car is a keeper, consider flushing and renewing rather than top-up.

Dex II is only suitable if it has the "S" and "E" gerabox (722.5).
Fluids
My car has a 4 speed auto with an auxiliary switch marked ' W / S' which I assume is winter and standard. I looked in my Haynes manual where it does not state which ATF to use and says to use Mercedes fluid for the power steering. I intend to keep the car and do plan on carrying out fluid changes. Unfortunately I do not have a drivers handbook yet.
