Which one would you keep? S600 V12 TT or E55AMG W211?

Fifthly, I have no interest in modding cars in terms of performance now, so c600 out the box is great.

They are absolutely fabulous out of the box and shouldn’t need anything else to get them going. A very well balanced car, the 600. You definitely should :-)

I'm not brave enough for a V12!

S600 for me. Yours is beautiful and the kind I would be after if I was in the market for one.

Absolutely, definitely with out a doubt, no brainer, the S600
all day long. :D:D

S600 every day of the week

I’m in the minority but the e55 is better built, more reliable and better all rounder, it’s also done it’s depreciation too. My business partner had a 221 and I was shocked at how poor all the switch gear and door handles felt, certainly not very S-class tome.

Thanks a lot everyone for your opinions! I'm sorry I couldn't reply sooner, i was up at 6:30am and got home at 10:30pm, long day :(.

Looks like most of you prefer the S600 and I agree that it's quite a rare car. I guess I fell in love with the w211 e class when my father had an e320 cdi few years ago and I really liked that car! I even done few things to it for him and it looked so nice.

I'll see if an e55amg designo comes up for sale I'll make up my mind then if I want to own one, until then i should just keep the S600. Who knows I might do the same as Alex and have an e55amg and the s600 :D. It seems like I dont learn, i decide to sell some cars as I dont get a chance to use them all and then end up buying something else

Hi Mike,
I just use the s class on the weekends. I have no need for it really but I just love cars. I bought my second M3 to actually drive it as much as I possibly could but both M3s are parked up as I never seem to have the time to drive all the cars. I'm not into driving at crazy speeds around corners or going to tracks and that's where the M3 is a good car so even that's wasted. I do like to have a powerful car so I could have some fun if I come across a nice car and surprise them and the s600 does that as no one expects it to move the way it does :D. I'd like to go around Europe again and this time I think the s600 would be perfect for the trip but that would probably be the longest trip I'd take the car on. I normally do 30 - 40 miles max on the weekends in the s class and during the week I drive a different car for work. I dont know if that answered you question,.... truth is I dont use my cars as much as I'd like to and sometimes I think I should sell them all and just buy one car like an R8 V10 (love the R8) but knowing me I'd end up cleaning it more then driving it and still get a second car for work and supermarket so I'd be in the same place again :wallbash:

As for getting an S65AMG, i dont think it's a good idea as a facelift S65AMG I'd have to spend £40k+ and as nice as it is I dont think it's worth spending all that money for not much more performance (if the s600 gets remaped)

Thank you again guys, I wanted to see what you thought would be the better car to own.

One of the problems the 600 engine has is the coil packs, it's just a matter of time as they all go at some point, normally they last about 60k

Are you sure? Sounds like you are sitting on the fence pal! :D

A whole decade ago I was looking for a replacement for my silver 221. The car was the correct solution for the time I was having to commute between Norfolk and Yorkshire and was simply the most relaxing way to achieve that.
I drove a number of possible replacements including an S63 and CLS 55. The S63 was not a car in context, a limo with a wild animal under the bonnet. The CLS I came close to buying, but having to put up with half the fuel consumption in a 'working' car was a step too far for me. So I ended up with a diesel CLS with Brabus D6 kit and that covered all the bases. Slightly less limo than the S, but a car that would actually allow you to play if required.
I have not driven an S600, but if fuel consumption is not an issue then a limo powered by a turbine of a V12 must really be a car which works as the sum of it's parts.
If that is so, why would you want to change it?

Given what you've said are "your" requirements, I'd suggest the S600, as it will be cheaper to run that the E55k, and will look significantly rarer. "With all due respect" to the W211, to the uninitiated it can look a bit "ordinary" to someone who doesn't notice the extra power.

But, if you're doing less than 5,000 miles a year, just do whatever you damn well please, and change as often as you like. As long as you're running 10+year old cars, they won't cost you much money at all.

You make a very good point there.... and to be honest the mpg doesn't bother me, I'm sure it would have if I was doing 12k a year though lol :D

Mmm yeah I know what you mean about the e55 looks..... i guess i got so upset I missed out on the designo e55amg that was for sale few years ago, to this day i wish I had bought it and keep looking at them because I feel like I missed out on something special. Maybe if I had one I'd feel different about it? Depending on the circumstances, if a special one came along I'll see how I feel, if I still want to buy one or not. Also few things would have to be done so it stands out a bit from ordinary e classes.
I see this goldish colour e55amg every day and it has s class 20's amg wheels and its lowered, it just looks really nice.

The one caveat I would add is that not all Mercedes are equal.

Theoretically, these things are "out there." In practice: not so much.

Especially for high performance cara and rarer colours.

Brilliant silver W211 diesel ? No problem sir.

Designo coloured E55K in the right configuration, mileage, and ownership profile: might never (sic) happen....

Sorry, but, in my experience, it's an important consideration.

This is why I enjoyed my old E55K so much. I enjoyed that stealth look. OK it had the badges and large quad exhausts but probably most thought they were for show. :D

Definitely the S600 for me, maybe get it wrapped in your favourite designo colour, that blue would look very nice!

I'd keep that lovely S class, even though I'm a big fan of the E55.

I reckon there is a man that goes by the name of Dennis that might be interested in that lovely colour E55;):D

That would be just perfect for me, if it were an estate. I gave up waiting for my perfect E55K - they all seem to be silver or black - and bought the W212 5.5 E63 instead.

I'd keep the S600, I think, in the OP's shoes.

E55 better built that’s interesting
