So google has (quietly) announced that they will start ranking based on a pay-to-play model for their shopping results.

Hence, the results you see will be only from those merchants who outbid the others.

Bing operates a similar policy sadly...

This leaves me a little "empty" when it comes to search engines, I've started using froogle quite a lot to search for things when shopping.

Does anyone have a valid alternative?

Do you know if other search engines do or don't do the same thing though (Bing excepted)?

So start looking from say page 5, that then leaves out all the top bidders and totally messes up googles or bings intentions.:D

Ones like Yahoo and Ask?

Ireland has developed a new search engine.
Doogle

I've only used it a couple of times but the Russian search engine Yandex.com is available in English and helped me find what I was looking for.

Lycos.com still seems to be around.
