Which Tyre Pressure Monitor Sensors do I need?

Upgrading the 18" AMG wheels on my E55 to 19" AMG Style IV, but realised today that I'll need to get sensors fitted when I get the tyres put on

Any ideas on part numbers?

I've got an 04 W211 E55 AMG

Thanks

I take it you saw the sensors inside your original rims. Because some cars still sense pressure loss through reading the rolling diameter of the wheel/tyre.

My CLK doesn't need TPM sensors.

There is a subtle difference bewteen the two systems.

The one with sensors actually measures and displays the tyre pressure, in addition to alerting to a pressure drop.

The system using the ABS sensors will only alert to a significant drop in pressure.

With the sensors in the rims they are near impossible to remove without damage, plus they would need all new fittng parts, mix this with the 6 year life and is it worth it

No, I just presumed they had them.

I'm planning on keeping the 18s, and thought I'd treat the new wheels to a set of sensors.

But which ones

Assuming the car has TPMS, a 2004 car should have Beru sensors (as opposed to Siemens sensors on later cars). These are pretty common on several different car makes (Audi, Ferrari etc.).

You could check the option code from your data card to be sure. If you want us to, we can find the correct MB part number.

There are two operating frequencies too, you would unlikely find the ones for US market from UK.

This is how the Beru system looks like. The photo shows the receiver antenna at the car side and the control box, plus the wheel sensor attached.

It should be safe to take the tyre off the wheel as long as one avoids operating from the sensor position, just start after the valve.

Photo "borrowed" from jesmb.

Yes please - that would be excellent :)

Top option, direct replacement for Beru sensors (it gives the MB part#) £65 each

The ones in my 02 SL are 433mhz Beru 1686732 or MB number000 822 33 06

The sensor part for cars up to model year 805 are:
A000 822 33 06, 433 MHz parts (also on my W211, the US sensors are 315 MHz)

You would also need valves, there are different valve types depending on the wheel. I have A 001 401 27 13 valves but A 000 400 02 13 also exists (I understand that both actually fit on normal MB alloy wheels).

Edited: I see I was slow finding the valve parts. The link in post #2 also shows the valves but did not seem to mention the MB part number.

Thank you at £65 maybe I will replace mine at that price, MB charged me £100 each, they last 6 years so that will take me up to 79 years old, so thats OK

The number is the same as my pic, but you beat me to it

A few years ago I got a quote from MB for about €180 each, the same part at an Audi shop across the street was €100 and an independent parts shop estimated €50 each but it would have taken some time, I ordered from MBGTC at 100€ a set of 4 but those were one year old.

77.84 from Inchcape, 65 is pretty good.
