My last five cars, and my wife's last three, have all used the same size tyres (195/65R15) so between us we have some useful experience of different brands.
The most disappointing was a set of Colway winter tyres which gripped well enough but were very noisy and gave poor fuel consumption. The best for wet grip were Vredestein all-season tyres, which were also better in snow and ice than the winter Colways. But the Vredesteins were very noisy, and didn't perform well over standing water when they were getting near replacement time.
One of my wife's cars came with Pirelli P6000 tyres and they were poor in the wet, noisy and wore rapidly.
Michelin Primacy were very good all round but extremely expensive. I am currently using Michelin Energy E3A on my W124 E300 Diesel and they are fine except for wet grip, which isn't great.
The brand that has been best for us is Continental. My wife's car is now running on Continental EcoContact and I have bought a new set ready to fit to mine (I have an extra set of wheels) when the Michelins wear out. The Continentals are quiet, hard wearing and have excellent grip in the wet.
We don't have any experience of the many other brands you can buy these days, but on the basis of our experience we would probably choose Continental again.
