About a month into ownership now and I am thoroughly enjoying my 2004 E500 (W211)

Most of the driving so far has been with Mrs and the little one on board, so it’s been Comfort setting on the gearbox and suspension and modest acceleration to keep everyone happy.

Yesterday I had to do a rare run to the office in Reading from Beds and it was Sports II for the suspension and gearbox on S too. Wow, what a difference! Naughty in fact...

Anyway, my question for the forum is this:

There is an occasional whirring sound that comes from the driver’s side front quarter of the car. It is nearly always there when I start the car up and it will occasionally crop up whilst driving along. It does not last for more than 2 or 3 seconds and can best be described as, well a whirring sound. It’s somewhere between coffee bean grinder and food processor on a slow speed setting.

My guess is that it has got something to do with the airmatic suspension.

Any insight or suggestions very welcome. :dk:

Look up..its probably a police helicopter:eek:
Seriously though I think its the SBS pump, mine does it too

yes, sounds like the brake SBS pump. All normal, and it does it to prime on startup and periodically therafter.

You'll find that it's a lot more frequent during heavy stop/start traffic.
