Since i drove to work the other day during the mini monsoon we had in sheffield(it was like driving through a river at times ) my v belt has been whistling. I sprayed some WD40 on the pully's and the belt and that cured it for about 5 miles but its now as noisy as before. :( The belt is tight and in good condition. Can anyone shed some light on how to stop it making the noise???

Cheers, Stu :)

You could buy another V belt?Or there is a substance we used to use on the drive belts of the workshop pillar drills called something like carbon spray if memory serves correct, when used it stopped the squeeling and improved grip. But buy the time you have managed to find something like that it might have been quicker and cheaper too have bought a new V belt IMO.:)

It was fine until i went for a swim with the car though  Could the water have done some damage to the belt or a bearing????

Cheers Sp!ke but its gone quiet again now :)

The belt tensioner on my 190 was broken by MB many years ago so the belt was on maximum tension all the time. After about 3 years the belt would slip, especially in the wet. A good temporary fix the save the blushes until the new one was fitted was to sprinkle a little talcum powder on the belt. Smelt sweet and dried the belt lovely
