Hi all me and a friend are going to the ring next Monday and Tuesday its our first time so any advise would be great.
Has any one been to the ring before and how did they find the track (nordschleife) its self.

1. Never time yourself
2. Never blindly follow anyone else
3. Keep away from bikes
4. Keep away from GT3's
5. Never time yourself....

I suppose I'm a ring vetran probably done over 500 laps now, was there earlier this month.

Best advice first time out

If you have a passenger invest in a second rear view mirror and get them to watch it and move over when they tell you, always look forward never back.
Don't time yourself
Don't video yourself
Remember bikes are faster on the straights slower through the bends
Don't chicken out on the carousel
Watch out for the ring taxis they go at insane speeds

If you can afford it get some tuition its not that expensive and someone teaching you the apexes and turn ins will save you a fortune in tyres and brakes trying to work it out. I can give you some contacts if you wish.

Most of all if you are going to attack the track wear a helmet and stay safe and be aware if you crash it will be the most expensive piece of armco you will ever buy

If you need anything else just shout :thumb:

Good advice.

I have only done 45ish laps but it is one hell of a place.

One thing to note.. if it has rained the track is slippy... if it hasnt rained - the track is slippy :)

Thats a very good point if its wet go very very very very careful, there tend to be a lot of oil dumped on the track on occasions, you'll know when its slippy as all the bikers will be going down the track on their sides :D but seriously be careful bikers weave and wobble like hell when it rains :thumb:

Why should you not time yourself ? Is it to save your self any disappointment.

No because you keep looking at the timer instead of the track and crash through taking your eyes of the road. Keep eyes forward and no where else is the first rule of the ring :thumb:

some good advise there I def wont time my self I just to drive have a good time. iam going on a week day evening how busy do you think it will be

Weekdays or weekday evenings are best but if the weather is good this time of year it brings out all the locals but much better and quieter than a weekend for the first time, shouldn't be that busy :thumb:

I've had the privilege of being chauffeured around the ring by Sabine

She is an awesome driver and a really nice person and has my ultimate respect

I went with my wife in her RX8 a few years ago. We both did a few laps each and had an amazing time! We have always promised ourselves that we will go back in the near future :D
As already mentioned watch out for any GT3's/other quick cars in your mirrors! It does help having someone else with you in the car as another pair of eyes..

I've done 8:55 BTG in a 1.8 Octavia in the past...

Best to let a passenger do the timing, or use a go pro type of thing.... dont even consider a fast lap till you have done 20+ laps.

Oh and don forget that will cost you a small fortune in tolls and fuel. (The Octavia avgd sub 7mpg round the green hell)

Top advice and no more than 2 consecutive laps in a normal road car that has had no prep or you wont have any brakes, My normal ring car is a VW Golf GTi ring prepared car and sub 9 mins BTG are achievable with a bit of experience

Do your homework regarding insurance. Most uk companies now specifically exclude the nordschleife. Technically european law states that they must provide third party cover, but the reality is they will pursue you to recover their costs. If you want to do TF I would recommend one of the rental companies, like Rent 4 Ring. The cars are very well prepared, fast, and most importantly fully insured.

Oh, and have fun! The 'ring is awesome!!

If you thinking of renting use THESE ask for Theo I've been renting off him for years usually use the Golf GTi or Megane R26 . For first timers he'll take you round and give you the pointers. First time I took my Nephew we went round in Theo's own road car a Golf R32 thought I would give my nephew the benefit of the co pilots seat so I sat in the back, big mistake, huge mistake, after just over 8 minutes of brain and neck splitting lateral g I got out and threw up and was not fit to drive for about 2 hours :D

Just do a search for Theo and the company on you tube you will be amazed, Kleen by name and by nature :D

I will use the clock on the dash to see how long it takes me to get around. I think for the first few laps me and my mate will take it in turn to drive

The ring was fantastic my car coped well but after the first lap my break pedal went to the floor almost and a lot of tyre squill. My best lap was a 9.30 once I used the racing line a bit the track is brilliant I wanna go again. The hotel de nordschleife we stayed in was good but the owner was a w*****.
