My cousin who owns a 2004 Eclass 200k was told by an engineer at Mercedes that the 200kompressor engine uses a Honda Block, is this a myth?

I told him he was talking Bo**ocks but he insisted

Never heard of that before! As far as I know it is mercedes own engine.

I would agree, it seems unlikely.

However there does not seem to be as much detail for the W211 mechanicals as the W210 (M111.957 is Mercedes code for the 200K engine) so its possible.

Not heard Honda mentioned before.

Mercedes have been associated with the GEMA group that was also associated with Mitsubishi and Hyundai.

However I don't get the impression that this has anything to do with the M111 and later M271 engine units.

More likely that the results of any tie in would be applied to the A and B Class than the E Class.

Mercedes make mercedes engines end to end, some parts will of course be bought in (Turbo's are generally Garrett units).

However, Merc do sell allot of engines on to Chrysler and GM for other models (Chrysler Voyager comes to mind) - on the flips side, I believe that the A and B class 4 cyl engines are GM variants or collaborations .....but I could be wrong.

I guess the lorry engines are pretty generic too.

The Mercedes 4 cylinder engine of that era is a Mitsubishi related design part of the Chryslers GEMA series of world engines. Mitsubishi Motors engines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia So they are actually related to the Mitsubishi EVO fire breathing turbo car engines! However there are so many differences to the detailed engineering that you can hardly call them the same engine.

HONDA is a definite NO!

I've read in loads of places all over the internet that the kompressor engine block was taken from Mitsubishi, although I dont know how true this is.

smart cars and the smaller engined petrol W203's were all made by a company related to mitsubishi IIRC.
