I was on the M42 roadworks heading down to London late last night. Some of you will know there are hordes of Gatsos on there; the traffic was heavy, and the cameras were going off like fireworks.

Me being good, cruise control @ correct speed in middle lane having just passed a wagon; there is a car in outside lane also at speed limit. I notice a nutter racing up behind me, showing no sign of slowing.

He obviously can't overtake properly because there's a car on my right, and I figure he's going to undertake me - ie pull in to the inside lane in front of the wagon and fly past on my left - so I stay put and he does just that.

What he didn't see, because of the traffic and the wagon, was the gatso camera, which went off as we were all in a row...

So who gets the ticket - 1 camera, 3 lanes - are there 2 flashes in quick succession, and I only noticed one - ie distance travelled is measured over the road markers??

Or do we all get one and fight it out?

I believe, if it only flashes once, it has only taken one photo (or has no film!), therefore is inadmissible as evidence - the only way they can verify the speed is the distance markers - measuring between the 2 photos.

So you certainly won't get done - as you were keeping to the correct limit, but he probably won't either !

Cheers sym,

I obviously don't want the points/fine, but was in the right mood for a good argument :p

would'nt worry there's enough traffic going through it to make the cameras run out before 8.00 am.. if you go past again you might notice the cameras are not quite vertical either

I got zapped once doing just under 30mph cus there was a car coming from opposite direction just over the limit,(I waited just incase, like you do) but no ticket thank god.

Had same thing 3 weeks ago a to**er in BMW wouldn't move over when I was drinving home in my van, so I under took him at 70 mph on a 50 limit forgot about the camera I pass every day, three of us went through got flashed haven't heard anything yet, felt like a right w****r though. bet everyone else did too especially being in a white van.
I dont think your hear anything.

I think this explains why there are the painted bar codes on the road.

The first flash takes a picture of say three cars at point 'A'.

The second flash takes a picture of the same 3 cars at point 'B' and one does not need to be 'Brain of Britain' to see that car 2 has moved forward 20 lines whereas cars 1 & 3 have only moved forward 10 lines, so car number 2 gets the prize.

There is probably a formular for work out 'speed', dependent on how many 'lines' one has passed between flashes.
