Who would have thunk it ? 60 mpg

attachment.php

It was showing 65.7mpg at the end of the motorway slip road before my mile and a bit trawl home.

Not too shabby.

Yep - a mile from the office to the motorway, just under 10 miles on the motorway and a mile from the exit slip to the house.

I stayed at NSL all the way. 30/40/50/60 mph where advised.

Not too shabby at all then.

I assumed you had zero'd the meter going through some roadworks.

My dear Chap. "Thunk" is not in the Oxford Dictionary so how do all of us intelligent people on here understand what you mean. Ha Ha. Only jealous mate as my c280 only gives half that wonderful MPG. Cheers, Tony.

Back in my day 'thunk' was programming term.

Though it was used a couple of different ways - one as a way of passing a parameter to a function or procedure - and later on the other as a way of intercepting and redirecting a call to a procedure or function.

But nobody here really wanted to know that did they?:o

Sorry I'll go back to my Horlicks, slippers, dominos and daytime TV.

Very decent indeed. My best single journey average so far is 58mpg over 25 miles, but over a whole tank remains ~50mpg. Happy days.

Mmmm Just to prove not all Diesels do 100mpg..
This is the worst I have had so far in mine but to be fair I had set off for work later than usual and got well and truly caught in the rush hour traffic..

What did the SL achieve in similar conditions?

I use three motorways and thee dual carriageways to get to the office and there is a minimum of one major collision per week causing significant delays or closure.
Seeing some of the collisions makes me wonder how they happen.

I still seem to achieve ~34mpg from the sludge burner, though.

My SL500 was caught in the same rush hour traffic once and I made the mistake of looking at the average mpg . . .
6.7mpg..
You read that correctly.. 6.7mpg !!!

Well, it made me laugh...

OMG 6.7 MPG, must be a record.

I dont think many 5 litre V8's would be good in rush hour traffic. .
That same car did 33mpg on the lo g run to the Cornwall meetup.. It had the 7 speed box which does make a difference...

I already posted this on another thread , but on my run to work this morning I got the following . Travelling at NSL where possible , or lower limits as applicable . Car was the C270 .

Wee run out today to Livingston

Sorry, but I can't say I'm all that impressed. Looking at the average speeds during all these diesel runs without any mention of lots of stop start situations can only indicate the sort of low speed cruising that would show great figures for most cars. Even my 10 year old, >100k miles CLK230 PETROL managed to achieve fairly good returns at much higher average speeds.

This was a run from deep in the Welsh valleys along tight mountain roads before eventually hitting the motorways for most of the drive back home. You can see that I wasn't cruising at 30mph!

And this was from St Mawes in Cornwall through August traffic for very many miles before the motorways that were too busy for nice steady speeds. Still a healthy average speed though so an indication of what the top speeds must have been. And over 40mpg!
