Why Do They Charge So Much

Morning all
well when i bought the GL i knew it needed some work hence the price reduction and i did budget for the work BUT
I do like to keep my cars in tip top shape and this being no exception
when ever i get a new car unless its on the Service History i always do a full service to include belts etc etc
this 1 ive done a full service and some other bits and happy as can be next it was the turn of brakes and suspension i knew it needed disks and pads and also there was a knocking noise from O/S front strut and a clicking from N/S front CV
So great priced them up with my local factors using well known highly respected branded parts (i did look at cheap struts but was advised on here to stay away) so the quote came in at £1,350 so when my Shooting Brake was in for a service i thought ok lets see what difference was using genuine exactly the same parts except they dont do CV's it has to be a complete shaft and their Quote was £4,202 plus £115 exchange per unit WTF is that all about.............
its like i needed a valve in a hurry as mine had welded it self inside local dealer £30 for a poxy valve
no wonder they have swanky new showrooms and stuff
 
It could be worse; you could have an AMG...
 
Its just mad and i love all of my cars i have a few.... and i know they are not focus service prices, but seriously its a crazy mark up and yes your all right because they can.
Just crazy and they know exactly what they are doing when they give you a courtesy car ive always had a next model up from what ive got i suppose its their way of trying their luck of hoping you will part chop yours in for a new model

I watched a video previously of a chap who bought a Ferrari 360 from a breakers auction place.

For all the things that were wrong with it, he investigated the parts needed and searched out cheaper alternatives from other cars within the Fiat Group.

Quite often the same part was way cheaper if bought with a part number for a Fiat than a part number for the 360.

They know you are buying a Mercedes for the perceived image of quality from years gone by, so they know you are willing to shell out more than you otherwise need to on a car, so therefore you can do the same on the parts to help that vendor's bottom line!

It would be worse if you were buying parts for super cars...
 
Mercedes dealers are no different from other main dealers, they charge what they can in order to maintain the illusion of high quality of service. They also cannot be seen to use inferior parts as their reputation is on the line.

Thank you for this reality check. Agreed, I would not have expected that big a difference :eek:
