Driving on the m1 on the 2nd lane doing about 80mph, Ford focus in front, i keep a distance of appx. 2 cars length, guess what the id**t does in front??
opens his window and throws a can out - I had swav really hard to miss that
can. Honestly what the hell was he thinking, got so p****d, kicked down on third lane and overtook. Then for no reason at all he comes behind me,whats with him, i didn't say or do anything, just overtook him.Kicked down again, didn't see him again even though he tried very hard.
Becareful guys there are some really thick people out there,i wonder if he was drinking from a glass bottle....oh my god!!.

It beggars belief what some people will do without an ounce of guilt, i dont know which is worse the ones that do it intentionally or the ones that do it naturally!?

hmmm... without trying to be provocative here i think I might know why he may have done this.

80Mph... leaving a gap of two car lengths...meaning you're gap was less than half that of the thinking distance at that speed.

Me thinks he may have been telling you to back off

He probably thought the can being light was unlikely to cause damage whereas you actions were putting both lives at risk.

So slow down a bit touch the brakes the gap would soon open up throwing something out the window is just stupid.

My thoughts exactly when I read the post. That doesn't for one minute suggest that I consider his actions in any way acceptable.

Two car lenghts at 80mph is too close and tailgating is often quoted in surveys as the most annoying habits by drivers on motorways.

Just a moran really...

Off topic: Had some Grandad (he thought that he was a real hard nut  ) with his wifey in an old shape Granada Scorpio being an ass on the M4 - I was "well" over the speed limit in the outside lane but he tail gated me very danegrously and when he went in the inside lane to try and cut me up I put my footdown even more cos he really pi$$ed me off and did not let him into the outside lane - he then waves a baseball bat at me... I just blew him a kiss and laughed my head off... the dickhead then tried to side swipe the car (my Dad's former CL600) but he stood no chance as I really blasted it after that... real nutters out there...

So at no point did you consider pulling in to let him go past? It doesn't matter how fast you're going, if a vehicle is approaching in the RVM you should pull in where possible to let it go past you, otherwise it will sit on your tailgate until you do.

I'm sure there is a passage in the highway code that states something about causing an obstruction or impeding the progress of other road users.

Besides, I'd want a fool like that in front of me where I can see him!

These idiots that sit right behind you really get me annoyed, especially when the road ahead is full of traffic. My normal method to get them to move back a little is to simply wash my windscreen. Take that!! :bannana: :bannana:

Had he not gone right up my rear bumper and made a hand gesture at me then yes I woulld have pulled into the middle lane - the "Higway Code" states alot of things i.e. do not exceed 80MPH - when this happeend I was doing XXXMPH whe he tailgated me so "techncially" speaking 1). he should not have been doing the speed he was 2.) He should not have tailgated me and kept the relevant distance as stated in the "Highway Code"...

Wifey never encouraged/approved of road rage etc. BUT even she had a big smile/grin on her face when Grandad could not keep up after waving the baseball bat - if someone waves a base ball bat at u r u going to backdown and let them bully u...?

Grandad's engine would have probably blown up if he attempted to try keeping up with a V12 engine in his Granada Scorpio on a long strecth of where there were no cameras at the time... ;)

May I add my 2p...

Often in London Traffic, I'm behind someone who insists on keeping 2 - 3 car lengths between him(her)self and the car in front. Given it's London, as soon as 'our' line starts moving faster, more aware people cut in in front them, thereby slowing our lane down. Getting stuck behind one of these people is one of my nightmares as it is just sooo depressing seeing myself slip further and further down the queue. Now my diesel estate isn't exactly overpowered, but i make an effort to keep up with the flow thereby preventing people cutting in - leave an inch and someone will occupy it - well in London anyway!

Hi Spike, I was mistaken, driving on the M1 again today, and it wasn't 2 car lengths but a lot more, that is why i was able to miss the can, otherwise at that distance there is no way i would have managed to miss that.My judgement of 2 cars is wrong, sorry for misleading all.Ever since ive become a merc driver i always make sure to avoid getting on anyones way or provoke anyone, i do value my merc alot, however old, and ofcourse myself and passengers.Yes if it was the other way round than i will only tolerate it to a certain point then i would end up loosing it,but iam working on that too. This guy just didn't give a sh*t if anyone was behind him, and when he did notice it and the fact i went on the 3rd lane just seemed to have got him acting silly.Trust me mate there are people out there who will do things just to p**S
you off only because you drive a merc, whether old or new, and especially around the southeast area

I will agree with you mate, and if you try leaving more space, either someone cuts you or the guy behind you is pushing you to get out, even though you don't have space to, and if you do manage then 8-9 cars space are lost - you could be doing this all day and end up pi*****g people off, a pity that you have to be one of them.

I always move over if someone comes up behind me... which is very rare - usually blue lights...LOL Another thing I do on the motorway is pull in the middle or inside lane and up behind the middle lane hoggers then blatently indicate out and indicate back round them... usually they get the message... Oh I know what you mean about those people that can't keep up with the flow of traffic and let in about every car from the side streets... drives me nuts too!

Don't you just sometimes wish you were driving a clapped out V8 Landrover with scaffold pole nudge bars all round and just ram the buggers off the road? :bannana:

I used to do that, I'm afraid that I just pass them on their inside now.

I once saw a copper pull over a guy who was hogging the middle lane. It was Christmas day and really cheered me up!

My Brother is a copper and I'm always badgering him to stop people who hog the middle lane. He gets given 'guidelines' to the number of people he needs to stop speeding.......shame he doesn't get the same guidelines for middle lane hoggers!
