Will a CLK55 take an SL55 engine?

Hi,

Im now planning on building a W209 CLK BLACK replica, and putting any of the following units in CL55/E55/S55/SL55 basically any supercharged v8 lump, as the engine on my car could be broken.

- My question is do all of the above engines fit?
- Could i use the current gearbox?
- what else would need to be changed for it to work?

Maybe a 63 amg unit would fit better? but which one?

How deep are your pockets?

It will fit but you are better off fitting an updated SC to a 55 engine.

Anything is possible, but it will be a big job. You will probably need the SL55 Engine complete, engine control unit, gearbox control unit, EIS, wiring looms etc etc

I looked into it but you really need a complete SL55 that has been rear ended and written off

Jesus, if I need all that I may have to end up just supercharging it, do you know the rough cost fitted of a supercharger? And can it be run around the same power 520 BHP?

but adding your budget, plus say the sale of the current car (engine condition included), save a few bob and then you could buy something already supercharged like an early E55k W211, all you then have to do is decide who of Eurocharged or Acid or Olly will breathe further on your steed.

If a 10K budget to build a Black replica scares you, including dropping in a supercharged engine, I think you need to forget about this project. There will always be unforeseen expenses and your project is far from straight-forward.

If you can buy the SL55 engine for £4k , another £6k should cover the fitting and getting it to work.

Conversions like you are thinking need big boys cheque books , that's why there aren't that many around. If it was simple and cheap , everyone would be doing it.
