Will I be disappointed with an E Class 220 CDI?

It's behind you :D

My E220 is a peach, a teeny bit noisy on startup but after that it settles down and is lovely and quiet. Power is nice and smooth, i was worried before i bought it that with the weight of the car nearly 170bhp wouldn't be enough but i don't drive like an idiot (which is why i didn't buy a BMW) and am very happy. In the real world the power is more than enough.

I have to agree with this. I'd have loved the E350 but ended up with the 220 and was concerned it would be underpowered. However, compared to the B180d the E220 is plenty enough for us.

Just depends on your expectations and needs. As said, a test drive of the 2 will help your decision.

So how about this to confuse matters.

Seen a new shape estate 220 in budget.

Would that sway you to go with a 220?

Are the new shape significantly better than the 211?

Go with the V6.

It's not all in the power output, it's the power delivery, and the V6 will have far superior waftability.

And by all accounts, the smaller engines have to work harder so don't really get a great deal better fuel economy.

My experience has been the 250 is at least 10mpg better in real world driving than the 350. 220 would probably be similar, but I would look at the 250 over the 220 as that ideal compromise.

It would depend on the costs for me really as I wouldn't really use the 350 performance over a 250. 350 can be quite a bit more to insure for some which is another consideration.

Smoothness and sound would be a 350 all day long. However taking a balanced view against costs, I'd (and did) go for a 250. Be it a 207 cabrio though.
