Will it be bye bye c200

what is your budget?

Its about 7k after I've sold mine. The ebay link is a nice car I didnt notice that one when I looked earlier.I shall have to keep my eye on it thanks :D Off to look at some more tomorrow ;)

Well i can thoroughly recommend the C240. Mine was £6500, which is within your budget and came fully loaded (see sig below). Economy has been 30mpg average so far on mixed journies. I see 26mpg purely around town (lowest tank average so far) and have had as much as 38mpg on a 120 mile motorway drive with the cruise set to 70mph  .

I have noticed though that using the gearbox in (W)inter mode gets about 3-4mpg better average over a tank than (S)tandard if you are that worried and can put up with the more sluggish response. Cold starts are a big no-no though - i am sure the needle visibly moves each time!!

Pluggers

You know what I'm going to say, but I'll say it anyway. Buy a diesel version..you know it makes sense.

Seriously the diesel die-hards have converted for genuine reasons, economy, drivability, performance and reliability to name a few.

Take some for test drives to decide for yourself.

I was reading up on the W210 in merc enthusiast today issue 19 the buyers guide and they give the diesel some good reviews.About the low down torque and driveability, which sounds promising.Mind you they did give the whole range of E class good reviews which is good for me. Its what im looking at tomorrow E280 petrol avantgarde tho :o

I wanted to buy a Diesel Merc first; not only for the ego factor of having worked on the optimisation of the 2,2cdi, but for all the advantages listed above. Problem was that I could not justify the extra £3k to buy one used at a similar age and the fact that high spec Diesel W202s are really really rare to find. I would have to drive to Mars and back to make up that kind of money!

I'm sure the C240 is effortless, smooth drive, but why not a C280? Surley the same qualitites but with a bit more go for your troubles and perhaps more about?

if youre going to go for a V6 W202 , don't waste your time with the 240 . Just go as Graham says for the 280.

Or a 230 kompressor ... woooosh :D

Actually i would agree with the C280 sentiment. They are a little more expensive to buy though (unless you like white)

My rationale in buying the 240 was it cost the same as a 180 or 200 of similar vintage, but had more toys, whereas the 230k and 280s were 1500 more, and Diesels really pricey.

You pays yer money and takes yer choice!

Or until you come to sell it!
