I installed windows 10 yesterday and have a problem with the sound or the
lack of it,I have a totally mute laptop.I have run a check on audio and as
far as the systems concerned everything is ok,all drivers present and working
too. any ideas gratefully received.

Have you clicked on hidden icons in the notification area and checked the volume control setting? My volume setting was down a lot lower than before the upgrade to Win10.

Yes turned volume up as was low too, troubleshooter on the right click can't find a problem
either,I am searching on line and there are a few remedies, but are not working for me.

POSSIBLE FIX?

Right click on Sound icon to open Playback devices
Choose your current playback device
Navigate to Properties and click on Advanced
Choose lower or higher bitrate (use 24bit/44100 Hz or 24bit/192000Hz – it depends on the device).

Thanks tried that, just got sound back by going to device manager, located speakers.clicked
on properties clicked on enhancements and ticked loudness equalization box and applied.
Cheers for replies.

Given Time You Wish you had'nt ; Several Things Refuse to Work! ie Scroll Pad for one,
So Reverted Back to 'Windows 7 plus', Now everything Back to Normal.
Maybe Will try again later! Only time will tell If they make Improvments :

I've upgraded 2 laptops and 1 desktop, all different ages. Not a single hiccup.
Definitely the most pain free windows upgrade yet.

Have upgraded to windows 10 on two laptops all went smoothly, in fact the Wife's laptop which was slow and had some gremlins now runs very fast without fault :thumb:

Just doing my laptop to 10 it is taking ages to upgrade :wallbash: still waiting 1 hour so far

2 hours later still downloading

Surely that is down to your network connection and not Windows 10?

You usually have to pick 2 out of three in life, you cannot have something fast, cheap and accurate :)

But where's the benefit?

"Oh it's faster" doesn't cut it - as systems typically start out zippier and get slower.

"Oh it's more more reliable" - unlikely at this stage because there will inevitably be some stuff that needs be fixed in coming months.

"Oh it's got more features" - chances are stuff has been discretely removed or turned into a pay extra.

"I like new stuff" - no denying that - but is it a tangible benefit.

"Microsoft say it's better" - well of course they would - just like Vista and Windows 8.

"Windows 10 is the same across all platforms" - hang on a mo - wasn't that the whole raison d'etre of Windows 8?

Ironically they seem to want to stand on 10 as the last version number ..... which is what Apple have been doing with MacOS. But Apple did that with an entirely new generation of OS.

I'm sure many issues will be caused by a lack of "10" drivers.

I'd wait for a bit personally and see what happens after the dust settles.

Did you run the upgrade advisor first and was it OK or did you take a punt...

Just installed WN10, quick and painless :) All previous progs work and all drivers updated ok.

Seems quite snappy, defo faster than my recently reinstalled WN7.

Will use for a few days and then probably go for a clean install

No I just went for it when it said it was ready to go.

First you could try looking in Windows Update, in Control Panel, and seeing if there are any updated drivers available in there (under Optional Updates usually).

If not, I'd have a look in Device Manager and see what model the soundcard is - you may be able to download drivers from the manufacturer of your computer for it.

They might just need re-installing or "updating to" them...

Thanks John,I have resolved the issue,see post#5.:thumb:

It's a "free" upgrade. Who cares?

I agree with your points mostly.
Whether win 10 slows a little or not over the next few months is irrelevant to me. It's faster now than the win 8 it replaced on my Dell laptop that's in use daily. It also boots almost instantly with the SSD in that laptop.
