My daughters laptop was working fine with Win 8 and Classic Shell. This time when she booted up the machine alternated between trying to load desktop and trying to load the tile page. It doesn't do it in safe mode. I have removed Classic Shell but it wasn't that, I have run a reg cleaner, I have run MSconfig for a clean boot and still the blooming thing still wont load properly. Obviously one cant use it as it just alternates between the two pages. Any help greatly appreciated. Grrrr

reg cleaner is a pet hate of mine... does more harm than good.
Try booting in safe mode and then create a new user profile then reboot and log in with the new profile to see if the issue is linked to the user profile or if it is a system wide problem.

can you go in to Task Manager and see what's running. Stop each one by one and then restart.... ?

I think he means using MSconfig to disable all the add-ons at startup.
Yes it stopped alternating between screens and now just flashes the screen.
Correct as per Microsofts instructions!

go back to windows 7 and wait for windows 9? Ms have a history of alternating between good and troublesome operating systems.

Before giving up, did you try logging on with a new profile?
If you can log in using safe mode then I wouldn't be so hasty in giving up and re-imaging.

Spike I just have and it's booted. What a star !! Now to get access to my daughters stuff under this user.
