Okay boffins, sort this one out.
My other computer is only used to run my webcam. Last week it crashed saying 'Windows Protection Error'. If I reboot it I either get into safe mode or a message saying 'Windows Protection Error - you need to restart your computer'
The PC (P3 1Ghz) only has Windows 98, webcam software and ADSL modem.
Any ideas?

try this

It points to a couple of things from software to hardware, either what you have plugged in externally or mobo/RAM inside the box, I would start with a Windows 98 reboot that will tell you whether some software/drivers have become corrupt or whether some hardware has failed. I run the same type of thing on a 750 AMD and that runs XP fine which will be a more stable OS for the future.

Hope this helps.

is the webcam or soundcard made by Creative?

Andy
Webcam is a Logitech 4000pro. No soundcard, just the onboard sound.

W210 fan, I've just printed the Microsoft page. I'll try it later today. Thanks.
