Windows XP won't shut down

Ok, Firefox says that it is the default browser.
Why did the IE shortcut return to the desktop and why does my mail program want to use IE instead of Firefox

Just fixed it
On the start menu - set program access & defaults
I have a custom configuration
Under that I get to chose a web browser
The selection in place was "use my current web browser"
I changed this to Firefox and now my mail program opens in Firefox.
What made the change & reset IE & created a desktop shortcut?

I'll repeat, what did the combofix logs say?

(I'm not trying to be snarky, but without hard data how do you think anyone else can do anything except make wild guesses, which are more than likely less than useless... psychic remote computer diagnosis just doesn't exist... )
