I had thought that when I put my car in reverse, the wing mirrors would point downwards so that I could see the kerbside - however, it does not do this.

Since I have electric mirrors, and of course reverse gear, is this something that can be unlocked through the onboard computer or is it more complicated?

Thanks

if you want the reverse convenience enabled then the selector switch for driver/passenger movement on the mirror adjustment switch must be set to passenger IIRC... or maybe driver, but it will not work in one of the positions....

Don't you have to have fully electric/memory seats to have this facility? I didn't have it on my part-electric seats W211.

Yes, sorry if I'm being thick, but there is no option on the computer to select either driver or passenger side.

Not on the computer but the selector switch for adjusting the mirrors. That must be set to passenger's side for reverse dipping to work. It only works on the passenger's side.

Cheers, I'll give it a go.

This is on the wing mirror button its self,if you do not have it in the options, then maybe you do not have that facility.

In the menu you can normally enable this feature. perhaps the options are not there as RichardM said

I haven't seen this work on my E class either

Its a most useful feature and one that I'll miss from my BMW days

You need memory mirrors for this to work. This is because the car (well, the door controller module) has to know where to put back the mirror to.

I think memory mirrors are only supplied with memory seats (or you dont have the memory buttons) - although technically I think you can add the memory mirror on passenger side and the appropriate door controller with memory function and have it work

Indeed.
My W208 had memory seat on driver's side only and that had the dropping mirror function. (Passenger side only had partial electric seats, no memory).

My W202 doesn't have memory seats and thus the mirror does not drop on engaging reverse.

Shame, cos it really is a good feature.

Just as a test - just in case - just try selecting reverse gear, and adjusting the nearside mirror to your preferred position for reversing, before selecting drive.

It might just work. ;)

If it does, then you owe me a beer. If it doesn't then I owe you about 10 seconds.

Pah. Spent more than 10 seconds writing this reply, so you owe me about 30 seconds ...and maybe a beer!! :D
