A tip that I got from Verytalldave on here years ago.

Like a fool and his money, a wiper and its rubber are soon parted, so if it's icy in the morning, check that your wipers are in the '0' position before turning the ignition key.

And... raising them from the screen on parking up prevents them freezing to the screen overnight.

And a smear of Vaseline around the door seals helps prevent them from sticking when icy.

I treat my door seals with Gummipflege a couple of times a year, keeps them soft and well fed and stops them freezing to the bodywork!

Keeping it in the garage works for me!!!***???

That also works for my 968 cab (although I also Gummipflege the seals on that, particularly the roof ones) but unfortunately the S204 has to live on the driveway, so the Gummipflege keeps the seals soft, fed and non sticking.

Another winter tip, especially for S203/204 owners - make sure the screen wash has enough antifreeze. I use Lidl's stuff, £5 for a 5 litre jug, good to -60C neat (!!) AND -20c mixed 50/50. The problems I had with my S203 when the fluid froze in the pipework to the rear screen, especially the connection behind the glove box - don't want to go there again!!!!

In truth only the SL is garaged so that is the choice of car for frosty mornings such as this morning.

All the rubbers on the MBs are Krytox'd........the Volvo has to take its chances.

I've removed my wipers altogether as the wind resistance slows you down.

If you have a land rover, like me, ensure it has a valid mot, unlike mine!

Krytox is what VW use on the Eos roof seals, it's damned expensive to buy and (from the VW/Eos owners site) has to be done every 6 months. Gummipflege works just as well and is a hell of a lot cheaper.

Krytox is intended for extreme temperature use where hydrocarbons will carbonise. Why it is being used for seals is a mystery. Other than its synthetic nature, but there are enough products that don't contain hydrocarbons (the napthenics in most attack elastomers) without having to pay the absurd price tag that accompanies Krytox. Complete overkill.

4 wheel drive cannot defy gravity, 3 ton off metal on sheet ice is bad full stop. This should be compulsory to have stuck to every 4x4 dashboard :-)

Last "at fault" RTA we had was precisely that - RR Vogue being driven very carefully by my wife, who knew the road was icy so was doing 15-20mph. Left bend, straight across lane into oncoming Renault 16 (which was a write off!!). Actually broke one of the bull bar fixings and driving lights and put a very small dent in the nose of our RR!

It always makes me laugh when people bang on about 4x4 being no good in the snow and ice

Tyres are everything really.
