Winter Tyre Hotel

You couldn't be more wrong. Its very unlikely you've ever used 4 season M&S tyres - they are a very new tyre type never really been available in the UK before.

.. and yes, we do get the same continental style summer tyres here.

Oh and fwiw, Kumho get very very good reviews. :thumb:

They certainly do! I have re-shod with KW27. Bring on the snow!!

This time around I'm going to get some 4 season M&S tyres for the 201.

How long have Marks and Spencers been selling tyres?? :D

Interesting article in this weeks Autoexpress - testing winter, summer and all season tyres - Vedrestein Quattrac all season didn't do too badly....But best winter tyres were Goodyears.

Does a winter tyre hotel have to have Michelin Star's, or is it enough just to be in the good tube guide? :dk:

The Kwik-Fit service is only for corporate customers, although maybe your local depot might look on personal customers more favourably.
Hi,

Just to clarify the 'Tyre Hotel' is available to all customers, at a price of £45.

Kind regards,
Gerry

The REAL price of kwikfit tyre hotel... I bought winter tyres £6oo (!) in January after snowy skidding dramas from kwikfit - only place to stock any to fit my Fiesta - and it all sounded sweet and simple, £45 for tyre hotel. I asked when and how much I would have to pay further along the line, and they didn't know, next winter? The paperwork said nothing and their call to head office was fruitless. I did it anyway.
In March I got an urgent letter saying I need to swap them over, which was to cost £44 to change tyres and ANOTHER £45. I left it, and have been driving winter tyres since then. Today I got a letter saying unless I collected or paid out the £89, they would scrap my tyres. Of course in 3/4 months time they will require ANOTHER £89 to refit the winter tyres! So actually it would cost me £225 this year to see me through next winter. It would be £180 a year normally if they'd looked after my summer tyres last Autumn. So it is not as reasonable as it first seemed. FYI I spoke to their manager (Dan) at head office on phone and extracted a free swap to my summer tyres and a £40 voucher to cover storage till Autumn. Funnily enough, before this arrangement was offered, all sorts of excuses were made about there not being ROOM to ...wait for it... store my winter tyres any longer!!! Heh they'll have to store my summer ones - maybe their smaller?

£600 for winter tyres on a fiesta, sorry but I think they saw you coming. I paid less than £400 for 17" staggered setup on my CLK fully fitted. Winter tyre storage is a tad silly, my winter tyres are tucked away in my garage, would easily sit in the smallest of garden with a tarp over them.

I would have loved to store tyres at home during the winter period but unfortunately I have no dog house.

If I tried bringing a set of tyres into the flat I would really need the dog house - it can get very cold out there in the winter :(

:D

:D

Wrap yourself in tyres, I think rubber is quite insulating in the winter :D

So that's how the Michelin man became the way he is - though martial problems... :D

Get your winter tyres in CostCo with the 20% off offer which is now on. I have been quoted £385 for a full set of Michelin Pilot Alpin M+S MOs.

Last year I paid £200 per corner for my other vehicle in October.

CostCo swap over fitting cost for Customers £16 for 4. Local Tyre Place £20 for 4 and KwikFit £45.

All above include valve and balance etc.

If you do decide to store the tyres in your house stack them, cover them in a nice cloth, place lamp on top and tell wife you have bought her an "occasional table" :D Wife will be really happy and marital problems solved....

Or buy 4 large clocks from ikea. Place clocks in centre of tyre and hang on wall. Write over each "Tyre Clock", London, Paris, New York, Sydney and set time appropriately.:thumb:

Another option would be to stack tyres buy a round chopping board from the DunElm Mill Shop. Place in kitchen and claim it is a new "Kitchen Island". Knives can be stored between the tyres by carefully slotting them in.;)

I would have thought it would not be beyond the wit of most people to spirit 'em away around house/garage/shed. I have two wheels on the garage wall and two on a suspended shelf - other junk had to go!:dk:

It might seem a bit odd firing this discussion up again but we're already nearly half way through September so now's the time to start looking at winter tyres.

I have a couple of questions:

Do you really need to buy a second set of wheels to be shod with the winter tyres or is it ok to get them switched over on the same wheels given you would only need to do this twice a year?

Do the summer tyres need to be stored indoors, I have plenty of room outside at home to store them (given that they would normally sit on the driveway attached to a car over winter I don't see any great need to book them into a hotel)?

Cheers,

Mack

PS. I'm not intending to muck about with the tyres on the E500 over the winter, we'll switch the tyres on the wife's Audi A3 for when things get slippery

Last year I switched tyres on a single set of wheels. This year I have two sets of wheels. Either is fine - whatever works best for you.

No reason you couldn't store them outside.

Quite coincidentally I was just speaking with MB customer services about this very thing!

MB have had many enquiries regarding summer tyre storage but are directing customers to their local dealership to see if they offer anything. MB are considering if this is something they should be providing to owners.

There is nothing currently, unless offered by the individual dealers but "watch this space"!!

I think with the likes of BMW and Volvo offering the service I can see MB jumping on the band wagon.

Anyone know what BMW etc.. are charging for storage? Or is it FOC?

My local BMW dealer charged me a one off £20 charge last year for storage and swap over. MB have to follow ... I have asked my local dealer ... still waiting for them to get back to me!

When I last checked at my local tyre centre, they are happy to fit new winter tyres that I have purchased to the wheels but will not swap the summer ones back on as they are classed as used tyres and it is against policy.

Just been looking at mytyres.co.uk which seem to offer wheels and steel rims for not that much more than tyres else where. Still comes to around £700 though which isn't cheap.
