Women, don't you just love them!

After 44 years you are like a old pro boxer you know when to cover up and duck and of course take some punishment, all women are the same it is always your fault.

Don't have to push the stalk or twist it to set the limiter?
If you touched it as you would an indicator stalk it would either set or unset the cruise control, either way the accelerator pedal would over ride it.

I don't see how you/she/anyone could accidentally set the limiter when mistaking it for the indicators?

As others have said, if the switch was in the speed limiting mode the last time the car was used, then it stays in that mode with the little amber telltale light on. Because the nearest motorway to me has had a 50 mph limit with average speed cameras for the last 18 months or so, I tend to leave it in that mode ready for the next foray onto the motorway.

Amen to that brother!

In women's eyes, men do two things wrong, everything they say and everything they do!

And in every marriage there are 2 people, one who is always right, and the other who is always the husband!!

So why didn't it do it when you drove?
I just don't get it that's all.

Right, so if you use the limit, when you hit the stalk again after the car has been switched off it'll go back to the limit not cruise?
I've never used the limit....i just use cruise to keep me under the speed limit.

Think i've got it now!

Because every time my wife returned home, she turned the engine off and took the key out. When you do that, whilst the speed limiter remains on 'standby', whatever speed may have been pre set during driving is immediately cancelled. You don't need to hit the stalk again after switching the car off. Therefore, when I got in the car to drive, the speed limiter was on standby and because I correctly used the indicator stalk rather than the cruise/limiter, it didn't activate to limit the speed.

Experiment with yours by pushing the stalk end and you will see what I mean - assuming yours works in the same way as the W204 that is.:thumb:

The car remembers the previous mode. If it was previoulsy set to be a speed limiter, it will start up in that mode. Bashing the stalk will then quite "easily" (according to my wife) activate whatever mode, in this case speed limit. (So I've been told!)
So, let me understand this.

Your wife bashes your stalk to control its speed ? Is that ok to do medically speaking ?

It takes a brave man to admit a driving mistake, well that's my story... actually this is my story;

I have been driving a 2016 E220d courtesy car for two weeks before this day, my E350 has the indicators below the cruise control, the E220.. the reverse. So I exit a roundabout onto a 50 mph dual carriageway, go to put the cruise on but accidentally indicate instead,,, bugger, cancelled indicator and gestured an apology the guy overtaking me at the time :-(
Carried on and around the next corner there's a "safety" camera van parked.. quick glance at the speedo and I'm showing a tad under sixty... just waiting for my £100 donation to the treasury to appear.... Doh!!!!

Cant even blame the wife..... because she wont let me.....

I leant over, pressed the stalk and because her foot was still buried to the floor, the car took off like a scalded cat.

Is the car a manual?
Because if your foot is buried to the floor it overrides the speed limiter in an auto.

Russ

Out of the closet? :D

Sometimes I wish I was. Least I might have a bit of understanding as to why a 20 year old bumper could be worth 500 quid (for example)

Yes I know it does but assuming yours is the same as mine, there is a resistance to the gas pedal before the kick down switch allows you to override the speed restrictor. Her foot may not have been 'actually' buried to the floor, but judging by the way it took off, it was a long way down to the floor.

Pedants eh???;)

And before another pedant says......"ah but what about turbo lag? Surely it didn't take off immediately."

Well maybe there was a short delay before it took off, but as her foot was still buried.........sorry, very near the floor, the car did take off once the turbo had quickly spooled up. :D There, I think that covers most things. :wallbash::D

Sheesh, some of you guys are beginning to sound like my wife now! ;):D

Errm, errr, are you on the right thread or is this a parallel universe? Just asking.;):D

Here's one for you all. My wife got caught with this a few times after moving from a 5 series beemer, she doesn't do that many miles and it took her a few weeks to stop using the CC / limiter stalk as the indicator (Don't even start me about the wipers ffs) any how yesterday I was at the hospital and was told I wasn't allowed to drive for the rest of the day, so missus took the car to do a bit of shopping. I text her when I was ready to be lifted but decided to walk a bit to save her coming up into the hospital grounds. 5 mins later I hear the thunder of the C63 hurtling towards a roundabout steps the tail out and onto the straight like a hooligan, I thought the car had been stolen. Wife stops with massive grin on her face I jump in and ask if everything is ok and what the hurry is. She says no hurry but this car tends to lose the back end when going round roundabouts at any speed !!! Didn't take her too long getting used to it.

Frankly I'd far rather be in a car with my wife driving than most of the blokes I see out there. The road warriors, right fist clenched on the steering wheel at 11oclock, head craned at 45° because that's how real men drive.
