Hi All,

This is my first posting, so please be kind.

I am looking to purchase a 2003 E270cdi. I has everything I want, BUT, it has wood trim!! to make things worse, the original owner opted for EXTRA wood!!!!!!:wallbash:

My question is, how difficult is it to remove this trim, so I can sand, & spray a gloss black, or cover with vinyl, or anything other than wood?

Anyone done this?

Regards.

All W211's had wood. Avantgarde had black ash, others more traditional "wood coloured" stuff. Each to their own on which looks best, but I like them both..... As for replacing it, it would be masively expensive to replace with genuine parts.

Spraying it would be possible but would almost certainly knock value off the car. Vinyl would be possible, but might be expensive and fiddly.

You don't say which version you're looking at. I'm new to 211 ownership and looked at both Avantgarde and Elegance models before buying an AG. Like you, I'm not a natural xylophile, not in cars anyway, but I find the wood in mine surprisingly convincing, and I was even more surprised at how much I liked the brown wood in the Elegance. (Classics have a cheaper grade of brown that looks nowhere near as good, but you'll do well to even find one.)

Refinishing it is probably doable, but it would be expensive - a lot to spend an old car, even if the corollary is that there's not much value to dent.

I'd advise living with it as it is for a while before deciding to change it. I was adamant I didn't want a black leather interior, but now I have one it's growing on me. The wood may grow on you.

You should be reasonably convinced, as it's real veneer.

Agree, the Elegance wood is excellent - I think that's why there are two versions of the E500, as other than the wood, there is no difference in basic spec (i think!).
