Hi all,
anyone used a Mercedes DVD type workshop manual ?
I've just bought one but can't get it to load. Am 99.99% sure that the discs are o.k,,,,, but am still having a problem.
The guy that sold it to me rekkons that i'm not connected to the 'net whilst loading,,, but I am on BT.BBand via ethernet, which is always on.
I have tried with USB connection & even Dial-up,,,, to Noah Vale.
Can anyone help please ?
cheers for reading

Is it the EPC discs ?

If so , they need to recognise a network card (fools them into thinking you are attached to Mercedes internal network , not the internet) ...

These can be fiddley to set up ..... but i'm sure you know that already ... ;)

As people start to wake up this morning , there will be someone along more knowledgeable than me who will be able to talk you through it , i'm sure ...

Good luck .

cheers Howard - EPC ???? sorry mate - how do I tell ?

I got these off E-Bay after enquiring whether it was easy to load - I was assured that it was (& it might be - when you know how ?!?!)
I bought a similar item a couple of years ago with the same results,,,,, I thought it was junk & never used it.
Thats one of the reasons why I don't think there is a problem with the discs,,,, more the operator

These can be a nightmare to set up and are all different depending on which DVD version of the workshop manual you have. They tend to slightly lag behind the current computer operating systems too. As Howard has said they tend to want to installed on a computer in a fully networked environment so various network drivers need to be operational. There are clever NETWORK EMULATOR packages which can fool the system into thinking its on a network when its not, but these are beyond me. First thing you want to do is to determine the exact nature---version/date/ type software you have and post it. Is the WIS (workshop information system) or is it the EPC ( parts listing) Is it on of the old 2 CD based system archived on a DVD or truely DVD based. People need to know this depth of detail before they can help. get the details from the ebay advert if nothing else. In the meantime do a search on this forum and also on http://www.mercedesshop.com where there are lots of posts about he subject.

Is it a copy of an offical MB product (EPC is Electronic Part Catalogue) , or is it their own 'how to' that the dealership uses ?

Either way , if it is a copy (or a genuine) MB dealership product, then you will need to trick it into thinking that you yourself are the dealership and hooked into their internal network ....not the internet ...

Do you have a network card in your PC ?

EDIT :- Grober beat me to it .....

thanks both,
The 'kit' comes with 1 CD (Install Video) that you have to play on a separate machine whilst loading,,, and 2 DVD's with the actual program.
It is WIS type.
At the beginning it allows you to install/enable Microsoft Loopback Adaptor, which I have done.
I am running my B.Band via Ethernet Card & have 1394 Net Adaptor running.
as to version etc,,,, i'll have to look into it.
The listing states TIS Manuals - but everything else points to WIS.

Hope this helps you to help me.

The WIS installs in a way thay triggers anti-virus and anti-spyware programs into thinking its hookey.

You need to disconnect from the web (leaving the loopback enabled) and then shut down everything including all tray apps before running the install.

Thanks for that.
At what point do I disconnect from the internet ?
The kit comes with 'killitall' which is used both to get rid of previous wis files & also to close all tray stuff.

Hi

I dont think you should connect to the internet while using this.

We shouldn't really be discussing this topic as it is almost certainly illegaly copied software.
To make a network that believes it is contacting an outside server just set up a loopback adapter as a new network.;)
This is a Windows function, just look it up in the help section if required.

couldn't possibly be illegal - it came from E-Pay,,,, they don't allow copies !
