You are prosecuted for speeding - NIP: 21FMG24

Probably targetted at USAians, as I think they have 35 mph limits.

"In obedience to Section 1..." :thumb::bannana:

These Google-translated stuff are simply priceless!

I can't believe you had to ask.

It's a bit scary that people don't know the Highway code.

The scam will be ransomware, which is all the rage at the moment.

It was a rhetorical question

What's the speed limit ?

How would the police get your email from your car reg?
There's no registration number on it.

Can't believe some people could be that stupid to be suckered in by such things.

Suckered in to what exactly?

Replying? Opening it?

Believing it or even asking if it's real or fake.

OK, fill me in.

How exactly will the scammers take my money or property?

(Why not actually read all of my post and see that I realised it was a scam)?

It's already been mentioned.

When you click on the link or open an attachment your PC and all it's files will be encrypted and become useless.
Eventually your PC will only be able to display a message stating that you must pay £££$$$$$ to restore your PC and it's files.

Thanks for some actual insight.

I was hoping to help others (including myself) understand what the consequences are. There are loads of simple-minded posts shouting 'it's a scam' but it's rare that anyone can explain what the scam means to us potential targets.

I think I take the view that if something is a scam, I may not know what the scammers gets out of it, but they do, and they're not doing it to no purpose.

While we're in the area, I have the Kaspersky 'Total Security' package. If the threat databases are up to date, is it reasonable to assume that it would stop me opening such a message, or at least warn me about it?

Any AV has the ability to be out of date. many also specialise on certain things and are pretty useless in other areas.

Its a race game, AV programmers can only generate new filters once they know what they have to filter, the time between these two can be mins, hours or even days.

No AV can be a substitute for user awareness.

As above... Google 'Zero Day' vulnerability.
