I guess what I'm saying is I get where the OP is coming from, I've now realised I'd rather a drivers car rather than a straight line speed freak which is what AMG's excell at.

Not all AMG's are straight line speed freaks though - I'm guessing a few C class owners would disagree.

You could say the same about the E500, why not have a V6 diesel; double the mpg and almost as much grunt...

Oh no, I've no doubt that the newer metal is dynamically up there with BMW's M cars etc but AMG's stronger point is generally straight line pace imo.

When I think of cornering ability, I don't consider my AMG up there. My E36 M3 Evolution was by far a better handling car than my current steed, albeit it was 200kg lighter, but still a very compliant motorway muncher.

However, mine would open a can of whoopass on it for straight line performance.

As previously mentioned, it all comes dome to individual wants, needs and desires which occasionally take priority over practicality! Otherwise we would all be driving around in eco warrior mobiles :fail
I currently have a Audi S4 4.2 V8 aswell as the CLS 55 AMG, neither of which I drive at their full potential constantly, but smile every time I get into them, turn the key and listen to the soundtrack of the V8 :bannana:

I cant speak for newer AMG models as I have not been lucky enough to either own one or drive one - but the thrill, smile and (oh that noise!!) all round package I get from the C43 has me thinking already about down the line which AMG I must get !!
They are I feel, just very special.
