Crappy drive and slow compared to modern cars, yep do I hanker for by BBR Sierra Cosworth again - sure do!

Never got the chance to drive one, only the second series which I was obsessed with at the time

I also drove a mates XR3i at the time, terrible clutch and heavy steering - but still fun to a point..

My first car was a red F-reg Xr3i, which I visually done up as an RS turbo replica including the interior. Last mod I put on that was a scorpion exhaust from an Orion which I had to get cut down as it stuck out by a foot :fail: my mate done a right bodge job on it. Fuel pump eventually went and I swapped it for a white xr3i cabriolet

Should have kept my Mk1 RS Turbo if that one is fetching £12k:doh:

I wonder how much my F reg Sapphire Cossie would be worth now. I chopped that in for my first MB, a W210 E280. Never regretted it for a moment.

Sapphire Cosworth is about £12k-15k

Was the Mk1 Turbo a real RS??

They say never meet your heros. Honestly, it's an old Ford, you'll be disappointed.

Actually, when I say it's an old Ford, it's like Trigger's broom, with new welded in panels and parts.

Rubbish, front wheel drive, over-hyped and chavtastically ugly. If you really want a Ford with wind-up windows it has to be a Mk 1 Escort with the twin cam BDA (Cosworth) engine. Tail happy fun, can't go wrong.

There's one for sale on t'interweb for £65k.

Yes it was a pukka Mk 1 RS. I joined the RS Owners club as the insurance was pretty steep at the time. The Mk 2 RS Escort never had the same appeal as the original although technically more advanced and quicker.

The Cosworth Sierra blew the RS Turbo into the weeds performance wise. Now that car I really loved.

Mk3 surely?

Mk 1 is rear driven and NA - whichever of the four engine types were installed.

Yes , you are correct. It was a Mk 3 Escort. I should have been clearer and written Series 1 Escort RS Turbo:doh:

I had a mk1 RS Turbo. Reg no. C402 ETM. I think I got it in 1989 when I was 22.

There were 2 variants. Custom and non custom. The non custom was only available on a B plate and these were very scarce.

I think the only difference was non opening rear windows and no sunroof on the non custom. As most petrol heads should know they were only available in white but (allegedly) Diana Spencer had a blue one.

Mine got knicked in Swiss Cottage but I wisely spent the money on a RS500 Cosworth!
