Do I need to replace my aerial with an OEM part or will something generic do the job?

The electric aerial doesn't function. It's permanently stuck up. It makes a noise like a stuck motor when I switch the radio on or off. Is it a common problem, with a simple fix, or any ideas on how to get an original replacement? Many thanks, Howard
