Just had the car MOT today, it passed but with advisories of nearside and offside front suspensions have slight play in lower suspension ball joints.
Also nearside and offside front suspension lower dust covers missing/split.
Do you think I should get them done before next MOT, I only do 5K...
I have noticed from reading the forums that some Mercedes suffer from lower ball joint problems [noisy/total failure].
Does anyone know if the a-class has similar concerns?
Thanks,
Chris
It was MOT day last Monday, it passed with an advisory that the flont right bottom ball joint had play in it.
Did a search here for some clues and there are some conflicting stories.
So here's the question
Is it an easy DIY job?
Are the old ones press fitted?
Can they be...
My CLK recently needed replacmenet lower ball joints for the MOT.
However since then, when I turn the car (especially to the left) you always hear a squeaking sound. It's getting annoying now. The mechanic who did the work said it was the brakes.
Thing is it never made the sounds before...
Hi Guys,
I remember hearing somewhere that the ball joints on a E320 coupe are not replacable and that you have to change the whole wishbone. is this true?
Thanks,

Chapter 1
Heard the usual clonking noise, did the search and bought a couple of ball joints, so far so good.
Saturday morning, leisurely start, wheel brace out, loosen nuts.
Holy cow! or words to that effect, appears someone had torqued the buggers up [I actually broke out into a sweat just...
My Indiy said that the ball joints are showing some wear. He said no need to replace just yet...how much are these then? Don't forget London prices
Hi Folks,
I have a 1996 c180, and the front end feels as if it is skiting all over the road and when goin over a bump i can hear a bit of knock coming from the front end!!

Hello, my car is a 1998 c180 sport estate, 120k miles. At the last MOT i had a warning about one of the lower ball joints.
Both sides are knocking over bumps so i will renew both. However i'm not sure which one it means. There is an upper one which is part of the upper wishbone, then a lower...
My local dealers has just phoned to remind me our car is due for its MOT. They are collecting it tomorrow and will be carrying out a safety check on the front ball joints.
There has been one TSB about this which our vehicle had when it was serviced, but I am wondering if it is worth owners...
Right... Not sure where this goes, but as its a suspension issue (I think) I'll put it here. Just came back from the MOT station; wasn't too pleased.
While I waited (too long) 2 cars went through, and they both failed. Third time lucky? Not a chance. My lovely gal failed her MOT for the first...
I have been told by my stealer that my bottom ball joints and castor bushes need replacing. Is there an all knowing person who can steer me in the direction of a capable person to do this where I dont need a mtge. I dont mind having a day out to get the job done properly. Any suggestions.
My W210 T Model (E220 CDI Avantgarde), first registered December 2001 and now due its second MOT. Having completed 47740 (genuine) miles since new, full MBSH, last service at 43531 (July 2005); I thought this car would easily make its MOT.
I was rather surprised (and a little...
Has anyone used the lower ball joints/suspention parts that GSF sell?
I’ve just fitted one of their steering dampers (sachs) and am thinking about replacing the lower ball joints and a few other suspension bits.
The reasons I am thinking of changing the parts are the car has always had a few...
