£86,000

Even 86 grand will hurt him....he could be driving something much nicer than a mini for that.....

Love them or loathe them I feel that their partnership is untenable.

Can’t see how Ant can be selected to present fluffy Saturday night shows after this.

He's currently presenting Britain's Got Talent...with barely a whisper from anyone. (Although this was recorded before the incident).

Why would they mention it?

What would they say?

He was only in court yesterday and the shows were filmed weeks or months ago.

In years gone by such shows were presented by people who became famous due to some talent of their own : Bruce Forsyth , Cilla Black , Tom Jones ....

Whether or not you were a fan of such people is a side issue , but at least they had some sort of abilities .

Alas , there now seem to be many who are famous ..... for being famous .

I guess much of this is down to how old you are - and no doubt if I asked my kids who they'd prefer, current 'presenters' v 60s-80s 'entertainers', I dare say it'd be the modern day presenters.

FWIW, we rarely watch TV, qualifying that, we rarely watch broadcast TV. Preferring on demand, notably Netflix and Prime. In saying that we do really like the Sky Arts stuff, Portrait and Landscape Artist of the Year. But again rarely watch it live simply because I rarely see my wife (and kids) and when she does arrive home, anytime between 8pm and 10pm, I'm all ears.

Talking a little on how much folks earn working in the media, I was amazed at how much YouTubers are earning these days. There's at least ten earning $10m+ a year from YT, Instagram etc, with one guy receiving $450,000 for a drop in... basically a product mention, or short ad, placed in the middle of one of his videos. No opinion really on whether they deserve it or not. It is what it is I guess. Thinking though, if they earn $10m, what are Google and FB/Instagram earning.

So if unemployed you pay no fine?
Probably. Think of all the 'dole blodgers' who have been caught fiddling their benefits to the tune of tens of thousands of pounds and once convicted are not sent to jail for one stupid reason or another then plead poverty. The courts then order them to pay it back at £1.23p per week for the next 750 years.

And that's also open to debate. I would have said that none of those were any more talented than Ant and Dec. Or any less for that matter.

I can never understand wealthy celebrities who get caught drink/drug driving...it's a long list. I enjoy a drink or six from time to time and would love to have the money to have someone on call to drive me around (don't say taxi you city dweller you..) Nothing flash, just a car with a sober person on the pay roll , or standby to take me wherever I like, or come and collect the Bugatti I foolish drove to the Dog & Duck. Not, I might add staggeringly drunk (all of the time), just out and about for a few scoops.

To Add insult to injury my wife still refuses to drive my C55 AMG so if the family go out for a Sunday lunch I have to Drive her Zafira (Ugh) If I want a glass of wine with my meal and she drives it back.

And before you suggest we buy her a 'nicer' car I have tried that and she say's she doesn't want one !

He was fined according to the law and it is the law that counts not any speculation about his talent, earnings, personal circumstances. .....
I have stood and watched as Colonel Bogey states very proudly "I better not I have had two pints" (struggling to count is a trait, two usually means three or four) then they have an epiphany. "okay then, just a large Scotch then I really must be off, before dinner is in the dog - ho, ho , ho". It seems that this is not real proper drinking & driving, not like what real men do. But then they get caught (you have to be really unlucky these days or crash into something) to get caught.

Amen to that. My pet peeve is the Golf clubhouses all over the UK, where men who are old enough to know better, play their regular 18 of a Saturday or Sunday morning, down half a bottle of wine, or more, and then jump into the SUV or Estate to wend their weary way home.

How do they get away with it? Well, they're careful, but why do we all turn a blind eye?

.

I prefer the older argument that we are all equal under the law. Did he 'get off lightly', then? I wouldn't have said so; the sentence seems about right to me.

It doesn't matter who you are - the offence is the offence. This was one was stupid but unfortunately it is pretty routine in the grander scheme of things and is something that the police deal with so regularly that they become fed up of it.

Just because the system is so useless at collecting fines and because the offender in this case happens to be wealthy doesn't suddenly make it an £86,000 offence.

But unless the fine is proportional to the defendant's income, then the wealthy won't see it as much of a deterrent.

There is no fine system that can work properly with the rich.

The loss of a week's wages for me would be quite a blow. A premiership footballer wouldn't even notice it.

I can't believe his mum allowed him to drive! Where does the money from the fine end up, be good if it was shared out with the innocent parties involved in the accident.
I still like Ant & Dec, have watched them grow from Byker Grove.
