0-60?

I'm surprised the magasines are even within .5 seconds of each other frankly. Theres so many variables to take into account like driver skil, fuel load, road surface, air temp and humidity, tyre condition and temp, as well as differences between engine & clutch tolerances.

From experience with Journalists testing motorcycles, the figures quoted are mostly b*ll*x and I can only surmise that they looked what the other magazines quoted and hedged their bets and went somewhere similar. Whereas the actual times done on the racetrack bore little resemblance.

And for some strange reason, autocar figures tend to be the 'best', but most figures in all mags will hover within 1 second of each other.

Auto car also test speedo accuracy, now nearly all cars are accurate to within about a mph at 60.

If you have command you can get the GPS to show you it's idea of your speed, switch on the car with the Radio on press the following at the same time

Mute button
+ button
1 button
3 button
Hold for 5 seconds, then the diagnostic menus come up , go into "Versions" , scroll through till you get to "infos" the one that shows you GPS position, it also shows mph.

When compared to the speedo speed this reading lags and only catches up when doing a constant speed, even still it will occasionally over or under read.

My speedo overreads by just about 4mph at 157mph, by using the sat nav distance measurements at a constant cruise of 80mph it appears to be accurate to underread by around a mph.

I'll post another thread on how to get into the diagnostic mode with piccies

I've just redone mine without the k and n and with normal unleaded instead of super/optimax and got 9.7sec which I will add to the table.

Incidently I once did a 8.4sec with chip, k and n and Optimax, on a red hot bit of road in the middle of last summer. Perfect traction getting away.

I'm currently running a test at the moment, with Tescos 99 ron fuel because I happen to live near one of the few test garages selling the stuff.

BTW. Since running the car without the K and N, which I've sold, the fuel consumption has gone from 25mpg to 27-30mpg. The last tank on 95ron unleaded and a normal airfilter returned 30.5mpg which is excellent. My best on the post K and N test was 33.3mpg!

Edit: once Ive done a couple of tank fulls of Tescos 99ron fuel, I'll report the mpg and performance figures.

I look forward to your Tesco research, I found that my old C220 liked Optimax, it felt perkier and generally more responsive and seemed (no data) to produce better mpg. I still use it with my old (92) 500SL. Any views on different types of diesel for a new ML270?

Oldskool - you really gotta check the date of these threads before you reply - this one's almost 5 years old!

Spike My last ZZR 1400 was 0 - 100 - 0 In under 10 secs, but only by a much better rider than me. I can't or wont brake that hard on a UK road surface.
