Hi all,

Radio reception in my '08 S211 with audio 20, has deteriorated significantly. It now has problems finding stations on both FM and AM.

Can anyone tell me what the possible causes are, and what I can look for?

Am I right in thinking the aerial is incorporated into the heated rear window element? I can't see any obvious breaks in the HRW but haven't examined it too closely as I am not convinced it's the aerial as AM appears to be affected, too.

Thanks in anticipation.

Aerial in rear windscreen and antenna amplifier for all of this is to the side of the windscreen behind the trim. Does your remote locking work OK still ?

The amplifier is used for a host of things (and there are additional ones if you have TV, DAB , etc)

It could be cable, power to antenna amp, antenna amp windscreen. Assuming there is power to the amp ,most likely antenna amp in my experience.

R

ps. AM needs an aerial too, so can be affected in same way.

Hi Richard.

Thanks for your reply.

My remote locking works but not the (IR?) window raise / lower with the key fob.

I don't have TV or DAB or many other features. Just standard Audio 20 Radio/CD.

So the antenna amp is in the trim beside the rear window. In the tailgate? Which side? I'll be able to take things apart when I am able to see in daylight on Saturday.

I understand AM requires an aerial too, but in my (limited) experience AM is a lot more forgiving than FM so I didn't think it would be affected as much.

On the S211, the 1st amp is at top of the left rear side window (you can see the antenna in the glass). On cars with diverse antenna systems, the 2nd is top right hand of rear door. Some cars have diverse antenna (all with COMAND do), some don't. I'd take a guess that yours does not as FM doesn't work at all

Check power to the amp first with the radio on (as its fed from the radio!) - pink and blue wire on the amp
