124 280TE Gearbox Gremlins

Hi,
For a couple of years now I've had a recurrent gremlin with my autobox. Whenever the roads are wet and salty, like they are now, I loose the use of fifth gear. After the roads dry, out out of the blue, it again drops into fifth gear. Anyone any ideas? I can't complain it's done 240k and still goes like a train. Cheers.

Well that sounds like a leak of some description.

Weird! If it's wet/damp getting at some electrics somewhere I would expect it to be a more major failure rather than just 1 gear.
