People Does anybody have an original 124 toolkit? In my estate I have a red canvas roll that includes some spanners a wheel brace, pliers etc. I'm not sure if this is authentic or complete? Any pics please.

Edit. I would want it to be complete as the car is a restoration project. Any clues are welcome. A look on eBay gives all sorts of styles.

You'll deffo find a photo online. From what I recall you should have:

Screw in tow hook
2 x spanners
Reversible screwdriver
Wheel alignment bolt
Pliers
Wheel brace.

Found these that look similar. I will post a pic of mine in the morning.

The set on the left looks exactly the same as I had in my W124.

Thanks John. It's my OCD kicking in now. Do you recall if the tools just sat inside the spare wheel or was there a designated space for them? This is for an estate.

Mine was a saloon and they were in located in the spare wheel. Don't know about your estate. The wheel brace is rather useless, I added a larger brace - two foot pull bar, small extension and socket. The jack too isn't great (ground needs to be very level) so I always carried a small two tonne trolley jack as well. Still it's nice to have a complete and correct tool kit.

John ,

I don't think you'd get a screw in tow hook in a 124 kit ?

All 124s have fixed towing eyes at the front behind the removable panel in the bumper , and at the back welded to the underside of the right hand floor well .

I'd imagine there might be some variation in what was actually supplied .

It is possible to purchase individual tools from the dealers ( as I recently did with the special tool for manually opening or closing the roof on my R129 ) but I have in the past obtained full tool rolls from breakers if lucky enough to pounce on a new arrival before anyone else .

I'm getting confused. You are right, no tow hook. Did the kit come with a manual crank handle for the sunroof? I think I've got that in my 2.5-16 kit or am getting confused again?
I've had so many many M-B's at this stage all the kits seem to be different.

I think it just used the wheelbrace to manually operate the motor - there was a little white thingy you pulled out then a 17mm adaptor on the pulley .

I see there are sets for sale on ebay at horrific prices, who are these sellers kidding!!!!???

I have loads of tool kits & loads & loads of the individual tools on their own.

If anyone needs anything let me know by PM with an email address & I'll send you photos of what I have that fits the bill.

What I have today.

So I think I need:

x1 Reversible Screwdriver
x1 Bar for the plug socket

What I do have is:

1 Wheel brace
1 Set of pliers
3 Spanners
1 Plug Socket
1 Wheel pin

The spanners and pliers are all original Mercedes Benz Stamped.

This is a photo of a supposedly new and unused W124 kit. Looks similar to your kit.

No Bruce, it's just a random photo.

Try dropping the spanners in vinegar for 24-48hrs. It's great stuff if a little slow but it's not harsh either.

My avatar shows the toool roll from a W201 190 which is very similar to the one in my W124 300TE.

Some of my tools were rusty so I had them lightly shot blasted by a place in Penge who also do engine components and the like.

Parisien,

Did you see my email from the other day?
